3.0 out of 5 stars Be Careful!
I'd honestly give this product 2.5 stars if I could.

First off, be careful with this thing. You are going into the 360's hard drive, and its really easy to mess things up quickly. Things on your 360 HD aren't necessarily labeled in ways that make sense, and so rooting around in there can wreak havoc on your game saves, downloaded content, etc, and even...

*The included software is out of date. Go to codejunkies(dot)com for the latest version*

My Xbox failed on me at the beginning of this year and Microsoft sent me a replacement. I do not know what the deal is but ever since then, there has been a problem with my saves getting corrupted. After the third time of having to start a game over, I figured I would need to find a way to back up those saves that I have poured hours into. I looked into getting a Microsoft memory card but was surprised at how expensive they were. Then I stumbled upon the Xport 360. With this I could back up the saves to my PC! Even better!

After installing the included software, I took my first look into my Xbox HDD. Man was it confusing. After checking out the manual, I figured out where my saves were. Problem was they were not labeled by names. At this point I thought the product was useless. It would take a lot of work to figure out which games were which. That's when I glanced at the reviews on Amazon and someone mentioned to download the software at the company website. After installing the latest software, I jumped to my saves and found that their titles were now there. I was able to copy the saves to my PC easily from there.

After I couple of months a game save finally got corrupted. I overwrote that save with a backup I made, booted up the game and everything was in working order. I still lost some stuff but at least I did not have to start from square one. The Xport 360 works!

Finally, I have a dinky 20 GB HDD and have been thinking of upgrading to a larger one. Normally you would need a transfer kit from Microsoft. With the Xport 360, it is not necessary. Just backup the content folder and you're good to go.

Good to get if trying to get games off of an old harddrive. The cable Microsoft provides in unacceptable. It deletes everything after it copies it. With this, you can copy as much as you want and delete only what you want to.

Download the new program from codejunkies.com, it has support for newer hard drives and stuff. The program they give you on the minidisc is outdated. Best price on Amazon, normal msrp $50.

The plastic is a little on the cheap side and my xbox 360 hard drive didn't exactly fit in. I took a razor and shaved off the tab in the back that the xbhd hooks onto since it never really fit anyhow. Now it just slides down and into the dock.

The software is somewhat easy to use. I am sure you can do a lot more than what is says you can. It is somewhat temperamental. If you click on a certain folder it might freeze the program but you can just restart it. It should work fine for what you should be using it for.

As you might have guessed, you will be saving these backups/images on your computers hard drive.

This will allow you to make full backups of your xbox 360 hard drive (20, 60, 120 gig)as an image file. You can select a partial image file which is just the essential kernal data so xbox will recognize and format it, or a full hard Drive backup (make sure you have the space on your pc's hard drive) It's good to do this in case anything gets screwed up. You can restore this image to your original xbhd but NOT another hard drive.
If you purchase another xbhd you CANNOT copy your previous hard drive image to the new one. You can, however, transfer all of your game saves to the new xbhd.

With the software you can also select certain files to back up. You can backup your entire profile folder (which houses all of your gamesaves) or certain folders of certain gamesaves if you want. I have a 120 gig xbhd 50% full and my full profile folder was about 2 gigs in size.

This product will also allow you to save and use other people gamesaves (that you download)on your xbox 360 hard drive(xbhd). I don't know why on earth you would want to do this though.

My friend played gta4 b4 he joined xbox live. He has to log into his non-xbox live profile to play the game. I am going to use this to move his gta4 gamesaves from his non-live profile to his Live profile, this way he just has one account.

After this long winded review, I am actually thinking about getting the 512 meg memory stick to do this work. It would be easier. I could just leave the stick in the 360 the whole time and never have to move anything. Having a couple saves per game is ok with me.

This product works great, and if you're into transferring and using other peoples gamesaves and backing up your entire 360 hard drive, then this is for you.

This is a great tool for anyone wanting to backup their data. It's also a great tool for modifying data.

A couple of important notes : the bigger hard drives are not supported by the software that comes with it. You must download the updated program to access these drives. After I updated it worked great!
Also, there are 3 sizes of 360 memory cards that I know of. The 64MB, the 256MB, and the 512MB. Currently the card reader only supports the 64MB and 512MB cards. I have no idea why the 256MB isn't supported. Maybe there will be another update.
When backing up your 360 HD, if you have any disc based games (not games downloaded through Live) installed to the drive, I'd recommend removing them first. Since these games take up several GB, it will make the backup and restore time MUCH longer. It takes much less time to reinstall them from the disc than it does to backup and restore.

Getting the Xport was better for me because this device comes with a plug for the 360 memory cards and an adapter for original Xbox memory cards and the Xsata does not.

I had a little difficulty getting my hard drive into it the first couple of times. I think they may manufacture it a bit small. After the first couple of times it goes in snugly, but fairly easily.

The greatest feature of this tool is the ability to backup the data on the hard drives or memory cards. the Xport can backup your entire hard drive or just the drive info at the beginning that marks the drive as a 360 drive. With this info you can format a drive and make it usable again. If you backup the entire drive, you can get everything back the way it was, including saves and downloaded content. You can also backup from one drive and restore to another.

Also, if you run out of space on a memory card, you can back up the data, delete it off the card and keep on using it. then you just backup the data you just added and restore the old image when you need the games on it.

You can get and share save games with it, but it doesn't bypass the locking that may be in place for some games (looks angrily at Capcom and a few other companies).

Things on your 360 HD aren't necessarily labeled in ways that make sense, and so rooting around in there can wreak havoc on your game saves, downloaded content, etc, and even render the drive useless (bricked) if you're not careful. Datel's included instructions don't tell you much, but read them anyway.

The only other criticism I have is that it crashes a lot. I have Windows Vista, a 20 GB and 60 GB 360 HD, and transferring files from drive to PC to drive crashed the included transfer application quite a few times. It's not very reliable, but it will get the job done.

I have Windows 7 64 bit installed and I tried to use the Datel transfer kit and then the Datel Xport 360. I couldn't get the included software Xplorer 360 to work at all, then I couldn't get the Xport 360 to do much, it crashed when I tried to access the save game Content area of the Hard Drive(partition 3). I read everything online about ways and techniques to get this thing to work and I was planning to just resell it without getting to use it.

Then I read a tip to use a program called Modio, that also has built-in drivers to read the Hard Drive and Memory cards(I couldn't get it to read my memory card unit). I was able to get it to read the Hard Drive, be patient it takes a minute to read thru the data, and then I was able to make the save game changes that I had been wanting to do. Modio works perfectly with the Datel Xport 360 and Windows 7, in my experience.

Bought this product to copy over my 20GB hdd to a new 120GB drive. Very easy to use, however, I recommend sawing down the little clip at the one end like another reviewer suggested. Definitely didn't connect right at first until I sawed off the little tab.

Please take caution using this. I upgraded to an Elite and purchased this product to slap the things on my old 20GB to my new 120GB. Getting any/all informaion from the 20GB was super easy and simple. However, the docking station will not except my 120GB hardrive. It just keeps clicking and beeping at me until I finally gave up on it. I am not sure why this is happening. It may be because I am using the Resident Evil Elite Hardrive, but with the naked eye, they appear the same size. Also, contacting the company for help seems difficult being they are in UK and phone calls cost a pound a minute.

If you are using this to back up your system or any other reason, it is a good buy in my opinion, just having trouble with my situation.

The Xport 360 fits the Hard Drives really well and allows you to transfer files between Xbox 360 drives. I was able to upgrade to a e-bay sold 12o GB hard drive from my stock drive. If you do not have the microsoft cable and also want to transfer files on MU's as well this is worth the price.

The Vista setup was time consuming as you have to turn off your user accounts to get the software to work properly in Vista, so the claim that it works with Vista is a little weak as the instructions had to be found were not in the instructions that come with the unit. If you are PC savy it is easy to do once you find out what you need to do. My gripe is the manufacturer should have put these instructions in the package or made them easier to find as most Vista users use the user accounts.

Awesome product for the games that auto save and have no multiple save. Fable 2 for example, you have one save for the current game you are playing. I purchased a 512MB memory card and created a back-up to it, awesome, and it works. This has been a life saver for me playing Fable 2. great product and price.
