"The Pros & Cons of X-Arcade Controller" -by LatinMessiah,

= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: X-Arcade Video Game Controller - X-Arcade Solo (Video Game)
PROS:
1) Looks and feels just like the arcade! It incorporates all the same materials used in real arcade machines, i.e.: the black plastic trim, the semi-rough textured overlay, the comfy fighting game style joystick, the heavy-duty buttons engineered to take abuse, and even the same type of wood as used in real arcades! 2) Reasonably priced. It's the cheapest arcade style controller out there...without compromising authenticity/arcade feel! 3) No drivers needed....plug and play! That's it! Super easy. CONS: 1) Joystick and buttons are a bit too noisy, maybe due to the fact that it's brand new. The casing for this controller is hollow for the most part, and is made out of dense wood, which acts as sounding board, causing it to amplify the sound of clicking buttons. It doesn't bother me much, but the people around me think otherwise. 2) Doesn't come with the USB adapter. Must purchase seperately for another $40 from X-Gaming ($30 for the adapter, $7 for shipping & handling, and $3 for CA sales tax). This adapter is completely optional, but it beats having to use the supplied serial port cables, which can get kinda messy around your desk since you have to "daisy chain" your keyboard to the X-Arcade controller for it to work. 3) Buttons only come in black. Well, it's not really a con. Personally, I would like to have my "punch" buttons seperated from my "kick" buttons with the use of nice, brightly colored buttons, but I guess I can manage. In conclusion, I highly recommend the X-Arcade Solo Controller. I did all my homework when choosing the perfect arcade-style controller for my PC/MAME setup and this was the obvious choice. Great value; great price. I'm a picky shopper and often return things back to the store if they don't meet my expectations. So take it from me...this one's a keeper!

To anyone out there who enjoys playing the old arcade games this is a must have. I got it so that I could mimic playing the games at the arcade like in the old days. IT actually feels like the arcades, it is as close as it gets to playing the actual arcade game. I had no problems installing it in Windows 7 and also in Ubuntu 11.04.
I highly recommmend it, it's sturdy, durable and same feel as the arcade.

I bought my first X-Arcade SOLO stick back in April as a replacement for my aging pelican real arcade for original XBOX.
I never intended to use this on anything more, but the fact it was PC compatible was a bonus. Upon receiving it, I was really happy. Playing streetfighter 2 turbo and other classic arcade titles was like going back into a time machine. Then Mortal Kombat 9 came out and this thing really got put to the test. The layout is pure genius with the traditional 6 button, but then the staggered two at the bottom. This makes the stick great for traditional fighters and makes games like Mortal Kombat 3 easy to play because you can make the bottom left button the RUN button! Well here's where this review takes a momentary sour note. The bad news is, IF you're a fighting game fan...the knock off stick inside this just isn't up to the task. After about a week of some hard-core vs. matches with my buddies...the stick started making a grinding noise and didn't feel as responsive. I did a little research and found out it's a common theme with these. They were designed more for games like final fight or games where you aren't making tons of fast jerky motions. Now the good thing is, there is REAL Arcade parts for this, that can drop RIGHT IN! and they are Very affordable ($9.95 each)and easy to install. Even for someone who isn't super techy like me. What I ended up doing was Ordering a replacement stick from paradisearcadeshop dot com. The one I went with is the EXACT Same one that was used in the arcades in the early 90's it's called the IL Eurostick. There is also a Chinese version of the same thing (also an upgrade over the stock xgaming stick) But not as good as the IL Eurostick...it is called the HAPP Competition stick. Either way, They bolt right in, but they are slightly like .5mm too big so you have to sand/dremel/or file down the sides a little to fit. But it's easy and won't take long. Then you just connect it up and VOILA YOU HAVE A PERFECT RETRO ARCADE STICK. The buttons themselves on these are good and don't really need to be changed, That said at the very least though I'd change the Microswitches to Cherry Brand Microswitches as they are only $1.25 each. OR for like $2.25ea you can order differen't colored buttons by either IL or HAPP and they SHOULD include the Cherry Microswitches (but make sure before you order)...and those switches again are the same as the arcade machines use/used. No modification neccessary for that. Again the stock parts are OK, but these are just a whole lot better feeling, more durable and responsive. Now that you have the Stick and Buttons/Switches swapped out....Let me tell you, it gets no better than this. I have the Madkatz sticks with the Sanwa parts and they are pretty good....But these are better! These X-Arcade sticks being made today, are the real deal. LAG FREE and Work Like you'd expect. The PCB Board inside these has been re-designed and so has the stick layout from their original design. Their Console adapter have also been revamped/simplified and no longer lag! Don't believe the hype you read on internet forums and google searches, the bad press these guys got is behind them...they learned from their mistake and now have a product that works awesome and they stand behind it 100% with a lifetime warranty. I now have two of these that are modded and I have every Adapter so I can use it on ps1/2/3 Dreamcast/Xbox/xbox360 Wii/Gamecube and my PC! and it works flawlessly on all of them! I HIGHLY Reccomend this product, and I highly reccomend switching the stick and switches at the very minimum. Oh and Modding it Doesn't void your warranty...matter of fact, the company encourages you to have fun modding it...how cool is that?
