First Impressions of The Logitech Nascar Wheel for XBox,
By
This review is from: Xbox Nascar Racing Wheel (Electronics)
I've been looking for a wheel for the XBox for a while. I have a Madcatz MC2 for the Dreamcast, and was expecting similar performance from the XBox version, so I passed on it. The MC2 is not a bad wheel, but the feel is quite toyish, and the response is tenuous. Thankfully, the new Logitech NASCAR is a more solid wheel, and has better feel, accuracy and control than the MC2.I've tried this wheel with Project Gotham Racing 2 and Rallisport Challenge 2. Here are my first impressions: Pros: 1. Typical Logitech build quality: Everything fits together well. 2. Control is precise and accurate. 3. Nice to have the slot for the XBox Live communicator. 4. Adjustable sensitivity is easy to use and works well. 5. Pedals have good throw and spring weight. Cons: 1. Lap wings are too small for an adult. 2. Suckers do not make up for the lack of a clamp. 3. Wheel is textured, but plastic and not rubberized. 4. Vibration is barely perceptible, even in Rallisport 2! 5. Pedals are small and close together. I'd recommend it for forty dollars or less. But I'd also advise to hold off for those that are considering the upcoming Fanatec Speedster wheel.

I tried the big three xbox wheels out there right now- Mad catz, Pelican, and this one and I really like this one the best. It has the best control, the most well made feel, and works the best with a variety of driving games from outrun2, to burnout 3 to rallisport 2. I took the others back and i am keeping this one.

I was doing some research on the different types of racing wheels for the Xbox and came to the conclusion that this wheel would easily be the best decision for any game player. I also found that the settings for steering sensitivity isn't really that hard. All you need to do is:1. Press and hold the MODE button for 2 seconds, or until the MODE light starts flashing. 2. Press the A, B, X, or Y button while holding the MODE button to choose a sensitivity setting. 3. Release both buttons. Steering sensitivity is now set. By pressing the Y button you get the lowest sensitvity level By pressing the B button you get the Default low sensitivity By pressing the A button you get the Medium sensitivity level By pressing the X button you get the High Sensitivity level For certain games I found the these settings to be helpful: Y button: TOCA Race Driver 2, The Ultimate Racing Sim, Test Drive, R: Racing Evolution, Project Gotham Racing 2. B button: 4x4 Evo 2, Burnout 2, Point of Impact, Project Gotham Racing, Test Drive, Off-Road Wide Open. A button: Midnight Club II, NASCAR Heat 2002, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2, Need for Speed, Underground, Rallisport Challenge, The Simpsons Road Rage. X button: NASCAR Thunder 2002, NASCAR Thunder 2003, NASCAR 04, NASCAR 05, NASCAR 06, The Simpsons Hit & Run.

Logitech's X-Box NASCAR wheel,

I bought this wheel hoping I could have way better control over the thumb pad. Though the concept seems nice and Logical to have a steering wheel for smoother more realistic action for games such as Forza Motorsport,NASCAR 2005...cup,and IndyCar Series 2005...etc I found that I only still had the same problems with steering and control. Not to mention that the forced feedback that this thing is supposed to have is really the weakest that there could be. So after playing with it a couple of hours and giving it an honest try I decided to plug my X-box Pad that came with it back in see what this would be like because the wheel's action sort of depressed me for $60.00 by the time I left the store and made it home to see what it would do for me.So I horsed around with this Pad that used to be a problem for me and much to my surprise I was amazed at the control I had with a thumb if I could just slow down and think and relax and slooooooooow down. Don't over steer! Just real easy movements and back off on the gas and then apply just a tad of break all right on my finger tips instead of all this stuff all over the floor and this bulky thing in my lap. And the forced feedback was happening even if I was hitting the gas for a burn out or just barely touching the wall on the back streach or even sliding off on the lawn! I can enjoy the feedback much more over the Logitech Wheel! Now I was having fun! With a Pad!! And this is what it's all about right? I didn't even know that there was feedback in the wheel till looking at it closer! I sure didn't feel it! And this isn't just about the feedback. The control was starting to come and all I had to do is look and concentrate and it was in the touch of my left thumb. And I still had all the same steering problems with the bloody Wheel that I did with the Pad so what was this thing doing besides looking like a steering wheel?!! NOT MUCH. Except for the clutter in my space. I like the pad better! Way better! Oh well what can we expect for $60.00? Until Microsoft or somebody [Logitech] comes out with a real decent wheel that will make everyone drop their pad or current wheel for and really enjoy it for more than looks they better put it in their own hands and honestly tell themselves that it is what is stated. Recall that puppy!! I want something real good! That thing didn't even feel like I was with my car timing wise and the control was a drag! I don't recommend it.

My daughter loves the logitech wheel for her car race games. The only problem is with the suction cups that do not always stick to the surface, but this does not cause any problems playing her games.

I really like this wheel. very responsive. I thought it would work on all driving games but even with sensitivity turned all the way down some games are just to sensivitive and are better played with the hand set. My old wheel had leg clamps that fit around your legs to hold wheel if you play in a chair like i do. Sometimes it is hard to hold wheel in your lap.

I bought this item and expected an item with a little higher quality. The plastic felt a little on the flimsy side but worked fine. This wheel is a blast especially with Project Gotham Racing 2!
