4.0 out of 5 stars Good Lights, Difficult Installation, and a bit Overpriced, February 1, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Xbox 360 controller led mod RING OF LIGHT LEDS- BLUE (Video Game)
If you know what you are doing, these are some excellent LED's, and look great on your 360 Controller. However, be sure to buy from a trustworthy company. I would recommend purchasing from the seller "Brambhai" if at all possible. I originally bought from this seller and the LED's were excellent. Then I bought from several other sellers when it was no longer available from that seller, and the LED's were not anywhere as bright. It really affects the look of my controller as well.

Now down to installation. If you are new at soldering, I would not recommend you even try. They are difficult to install, considering they are so small and can't even be picked up with the pinch of your fingers. So not are they extremely difficult to see, but then you need to make sure you are installing them in the right direction. This means that you need to find out each of the 4 positive and negative directions on the board, then find out which is positive and negative on the LED itself. It can be quite hard. Also, it is a must that you stick with a low wattage soldering iron, anywhere between 25 and 40 watts should be sufficient. If you go too high, you could not only be melting the board, but the LED can melt extremely quickly. Also I would not recommend doing this alone. You'll need one person to hold down the LED with a pair of tweezers while the other solders it down.

But in the end, if you are successful, they look great. But like mentioned in the title, these are extremely overpriced here on Amazon. You need 4 LED's for the controller, and most sellers give you 5 in case you mess up or lose one (which they get lost a LOT). All for around $8.00 with shipping. But on one of Amazon's largest competing websites (you know what I am talking about), you can buy the same exact SMD 0603 LED's, 100 of them, for less than $12.00. I would recommend buying them from there.

I just wanted to say that if you don't solder for a hobby or actual solder for a job, DONT buy this. I have soldered probably about 5 things in my lifetime, which is 18 years, and this was incredibly difficult even with a soldering pencil. This reminds me, if you have anything bigger than a pencil, I will congratulate you for even getting the first LED working. This is obviously not impossible to do, you just need to have in between intermediate and advanced experience under your belt before you do this. I now have a controller with no LEDS, but it still works though. Also, expect it to take hours to do, this being dependable on experience obviously. Lastly, the price for the LEDs is cheap, but the shipping gets you and if you screw up, obviously thats another $50 or so down the drain for the controller. Hope this helps.

Like I mentioned before, if you do mess up and the LEDs don't work, before you smash your controller into tiny pieces or throw it away try to connect it to your xbox and try to play with it first. I did this right before I was going to throw it away and it worked fine, besides the LEDs of course.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice looking blue led lights, but......, April 10, 2010
This review is from: Xbox 360 controller led mod RING OF LIGHT LEDS- BLUE (Video Game)
...make sure you have a good soldering iron, pliers, and magnifying glass. It's very easy to mess them up if you are not careful. They are just a bit bigger than a grain of salt. Also, it's better if you have someone else helping you hold the led lights with pliers while you solder them to the board. And if you don't have a steady hand, forget it. They look really cool, if you are able to install them.
