Remember when cd's were new and you could'nt wait to go through your piles of Earache, Roadrunner,Nuclear Blast and Century Media discs not knowing they would go on to become classics, The first time you heard the Florida bands, and Celtic Frost or Napalm Death. Well put this in your player and let Obituary bring you back to those days of the new underground.Time has...

2.0 out of 5 stars The Lead Guitar Kills The Mood
I'm about as old as the band members and have been a fan since "slowly we rot". I was really, and mean really, disappointed with Ralph Santolla guitar influence. I know he's only sitting in temporally but his sound just isn't "death metal" its more like "van halen". I'm all for bands evolving and change can be good but in this case it was just a big let down. I can't wait...

Well put this in your player and let Obituary bring you back to those days of the new underground.Time has stood still for these cavemen. This will wet your appetite for Death again. The fuzzed out crunch and the belching demon vocals, from frenzy to groove this stuff has real emotion to it, Welcome back indeed.

Fans of Cause of Death era Obit should love this album. I thought that the last couple of albums were okay but this one has the awesome combo of Celtic Frost inspired riffs coupled with a doomy deathy sludge that only Obituary can reproduce. I guess Alan is not on this cd but you would never know. Old school fans will be proud.

I am a old Obituary fan who has been with them since their first brutal album. This is one of the best albums they have done in their long career. If you like a bludgeoning wall of supreme guitar riffs this is the one for you. My only complaint is my old neck is sore from all the head banging
Down load it today. Nuff said

Obituary is the reason why i started playing the guitar, i never heard the guitar play so thick, deep and low like that before, the sound of the guitar is very unique, that was in 1990, this album is like the old albums first time you need to get used to the rhythm and then it will be a master piece.

5.0 out of 5 stars Obituary's best ever cd, July 23, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Xecutioner's Return (Audio CD)
"Xecutioner's Return" is Obituary's best cd ever. The songs tear the roof off and as heavy as ever for this veteran death metal band.Former Deicide guitarist Ralph Santolla takes Allen West's place for now and totally shreds throughout the cd.This Limited Edition Box verison has a 2-sided poster and bonus track-"Executioner Returns".Don't miss out getting this Limited Edition verison of this cd.Obituary Rules.

I always liked Obituary and was glad to see this on the shelves. They have stuck to the original Obituary but the guitar work (solos) is worlds better. IMO they don't use melody and variation enough like most of the new metal, it is still an awesome album. Although, I'm not sure Obituary's sound can be compared to anything else I've ever heard, you either like it or you don't.

I'll be honest - I didn't like it at first. By the 3rd or 4th time you listen to it you'll start to appreciate what they have done on this album. It's definitely one of my favorites so far this year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Metal Legends, May 29, 2008
This review is from: Xecutioner's Return (Audio CD)
Obituary is definitely amung the top 10 REAL metal bands of all time. Bands like Pantera, Slayer, Sepultura, included. No need to blabber on and prove how much I know about music and English composition. This CD kicks [...] - period. Heavy, nasty, sick, and twisted. Considering how horrible the music scene is now - be glad, as metal fans, we still have these guys making music.

Most bands start off real good and die off. Not Obituary. It seems like these guys get better with every CD they put out. Not saying I didn't like the others, I used to have crazy dreams where Id be listening to Cause Of Death because I listened to it so much. The Xecutioners Return has the same style of drums which I like most about Obituary, the guitar solos are more melodic, and almost put you in a trance, the vocals sound the same but are easier to understand, which some people other than me would appreciate. I like them either way. Finally, this CD hits hard as hell! And they keep getting harder!!
