This review is from: Xeko Mission: Costa Rica Exploration and Conservation Booster Pack (Toy)
I picked up a Xeko Madagascar starter set at a Thrift store. I did not expect it to be a big success with my son who likes playing with Pokemon and Lego but since buying the set we have played it daily and he often sits down and looks through his cards, reading their powers and abilities. We have bought a number of booster sets and they are equally enjoyable.
Xeko cards are all about animals and plants in the ecosystems. They offer children a vocabulary and awareness of less known animals and are an excellent starting point for discussions of environmental and ecological concerns.
Beyond the educational benefits, the game is just plain fun. It is a blend of a battle-card game and a board game. It is relatively fast paced and simple or complex enough for players of different ages and abilities.
My son says of Xeko:
"These cards are very fun and they are a nice game and they let you learn about animals and what they look like and what their names are. I think its fun to look at the pictures and I am really hoping to get the hairy eared dwarf lemur card because he is very very cute. I think its just all fun and its a very good game and I LOVE IT!"
It says age 8 and up but I believe that 6 year olds familiar with trading card games, and able to read, would enjoy it too.
