4.0 out of 5 stars Great music, Poor selection, July 27, 2001
This review is from: Xena: Warrior Princess, Volume Six : Original Television Soundtrack (Audio CD)
For what could very well be the last soundtrack of the series, Volume 6 boasts some of the best music Joseph LoDuca has ever done, yet it also suffers from poor selection. Some of the tracks are obvious necessities (the Emmy-winning score from Fallen Angel comes to mind) but others, including just about every song from track 17 to 30 on the second disk, are not. Yes, the country-style music from the comedy episodes is quirky and fun to listen to, but I can't help thinking, every time I get to disk 2, what's still missing:

Ides of March-the vocal from the ending crucifixion scene seems to have been left out. All the music around it, however, is found in the track "Way of Pain."

God Fearing Child-the sad cue that plays when Hera is left alone to face Zeus (probably one of the most memorable scenes in the entire series). This plays again in the Season 5 finale, Motherhood.

Motherhood-all the new tracks. How they could have left this off the CD and inserted country music, and songs we've heard before on previous albums, is beyond me. Three songs come to mind-the battle music between Xena and the gods (which is actually used quite frequently), and the two spectacular pieces during and after the final battle with Athena. These two songs match the most famous track from Fallen Angel, "Go to Them," for sheer drama and emotion and their absence is definitely a drawback.

Livia-the battle music between Eve and Xena.

The Debt-this will be possibly the greatest mystery of all. In Volume Four, the beginning half of Xena's "execution" music was left in, but the second half was omitted. The track's name even made note of it-"Execution, Part 1." This battle music (with a grand flourish in the middle) is used four times in the series-whenever a dramatic fight scene in China occurs. Why it was omitted from Volume Four is a question, why it's not in Volume Six is another.

Sacrifice-I nearly forgot this one. This is music that has not been released for three seasons and best of all, it's music that hasn't been recycled (as so many other tracks have been). If there were ever an opportunity to release it, it would be now, but like the above and others (Najara's themes, Adventures in the Sin Trade, etc.) it's nowhere to be found.

The music is indeed spectacular and this CD is a recommended buy, but chances are, if you're a series veteran, you'll be missing all those tracks which were tragically omitted from this volume.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, but still missing great songs., July 12, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Xena: Warrior Princess, Volume Six : Original Television Soundtrack (Audio CD)
This is a must have for any and all Xena fans. Ides of March and Fallen Angel is some of Lo Duca's best music. However, this doesn't include many of the songs that "die hard" fans were looking for. It is missing the song that MiLila sang on Destiny and some of the indigenous religious type songs used in the episodes with Eli. It's also missing the music from "The Conqueror" with Najara. So what happened? We don't know. And they added "Joxer the Mighty" and the main theme. Why? They are on the first 2 CDs. I wonder if they are going to come out with another CD; Xena - the lost songs. In the meantime, I guess we'll just have to settle for what we have on 6 CDs and tape the rest directly from video.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grand Ending, August 3, 2001

It seems to me that Xena Vol. 6 was the best of the collection. As the series end piece, it has a fantastic assortment of music, mood settings, and exciting scene lead-ins. I have listened to it a number of times, and still enjoy it greatly. In some ways, it seems to sum up the entire six years of the series. Amazing!

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful soundtrack that ends the series with a *bang*, July 10, 2001
By
This review is from: Xena: Warrior Princess, Volume Six : Original Television Soundtrack (Audio CD)
As a fan of the show and its music, I own each soundtrack of the show and have almost always been satisfied. I was slightly disappointed by vol.5 as with the 5th season itself but this disappointment is well compensated by the last soundtrack of the show. The fact that they have finally decided to release a double soundtrack is something I have been waiting for for a long time.

The first CD includes music from "Fallen Angel", "Ides of March", "The Ring" trilogy, one cue from "God Fearing Child" (when Zeus is killed and Eve is born) as well as two cues from the episodes in Northern Africa. "Fallen Angel" is truly amazing and will make you feel like you are being lifted to Heaven by angels and then fighting alongside the archangels, etc. The music from this episode is probably the highlight of the soundtrack and truly deserved the emmy award Joe DeLuca got for it. The rest of the first CD is wonderful, and, although I'm unfamiliar with the sixth season, I found the music from "The Ring" very beautiful as well as the dance cues from the Northern Africa episodes (I wanted to dance the entire time I was listening to it).

The second CD includes music from "Friends In Need", the two-part finale of the series in Japan, and is very exotic and dramatic. It is then followed by a few bonus cues from the "Purity" and "Back in the Bottle" as well as "Them Bones, Them Bones" and "Seeds of Faith". The last section was the one I found a little disappointing and misleading. It's entitled "Special Requests" but mostly includes random cues such as "The Play's The Thing" (which is the introduction song to Gabrielle's play in that episode) as well as some cues that can already be found in other Xena soundtracks, which are the Main Title and "Joxer, the Mighty" (beware: the latter is not performed by Ted Raimi as the sleeve says, but is the choir version found in vol.2). I was disappointed not to find the Bacchae Rap and more music from "Adventures in the Sin Trade" and "The Debt". The only cues you can find are from comedy episodes. I must admit however that some cues are enjoyable (i.e. "The Quill is Mightier").

Overall, this soundtrack is a must for any fan of the show. I love it and only hope that someday a bonus CD will be released that will include requests from the fans (requests that AREN'T included in the other CDs).

5.0 out of 5 stars "The Last One??", July 27, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Xena: Warrior Princess, Volume Six : Original Television Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Well Im givin this one 5 stars just because the fact that Mr. Loduca graced us with 2 CD. Its about time we get that much for the money were forking out. Well I definately enjoyed Xena's Musical Scores and Songs over the last 6 years though Im going to agree with some of my "hardcore" xena fans out there that the cd just doesnt do justice due to the Missing songs. Whats up with the M'lila song that was one of the most important and inspirational piece of Xena also the Bacchae Rap and Chant from "Girls just wanna have fun" i love that one!! and also whats going on with the repetitive bonus track like 'joxer the mighty" H..ello!! wasnt that on the 2nd cd? what a waist of cd space also I definately agree that Mr. Loduca needs one more Cd just recently mentioned "The lost songs". Other than that songs are no doubt very relaxing, inspiring, and will keep xena fans alive. Note Missing Songs: M'lila song- Bacchae chant and rap- Eli healing touch- Velasca and Xena's Quarey fight(the rock area)- The Furies Dance- Entering the amazon land of dead fire dance- Battle On!! ay-yi-yi-yi-yi!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fitting End to a ground breaking series, July 10, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Xena: Warrior Princess, Volume Six : Original Television Soundtrack (Audio CD)
In the six seasons that Xena: Warrior Princess has aired it has broke many new grounds for t.v., and also produced a wonderful collection of CDs to go with each season, and now to celebrate the last, and most controversial season, we get a 2 volume cd set filled with Joseph LoDuca's great music. with tracks from many awesome episodes including "Fallen Angel" "The Ides of March" "The Norse Trilogy" and the dramatic finale "A Friend In Need". We also get a greates hits, so to speak of novalty songs from the variouse seasons. I will miss tuning in to Xena every week, but when ever I start to miss her, I can just pop in this CD and remember the greatest adventure series that ever was.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, but no prize, March 30, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Xena: Warrior Princess, Volume Six : Original Television Soundtrack (Audio CD)
The selections from the Ring trilogy, Friends in need and Fallen Angel were excellent, however, some of the special request such as joxer the mighty, seemed a little bit rushed. Wasn't that song on Volume 2 already? Where was M'Lila's song from Destiny, or the music played During the first Kiss in "The Quest"
The cd has its good points, personally "It's Over" from "THAB" with its haunting melodies portraying the consequences of war.

4.0 out of 5 stars good to see these songs finally, July 5, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Xena: Warrior Princess, Volume Six : Original Television Soundtrack (Audio CD)
This album along with #'s 1-5 is a throw together of music from the episodes of Xena. What's nice about this one is that it features songs from past season's that were omitted off the first 5 CD's, finally you can have "that song" that you've always heard but never knew the title or get the recording. I am a huge fan of Xena and think Joe LoDuca's work on the series was fantastic, I am glad to have a chance to hear this fabulous music and now own it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional, November 29, 2001

I am a fanatic and devoted Xenite.I have a huge problem:i can't stop listening to that cd,since the first time i listened to it,which means 1 month! That cd is really exceptional and i think that every true and genuine Xenite should buy it!It's really good!I was moved when i heard the Fallen Angel part.I was passioned when i heard the Ring Trilogy!I was astonishing when i heard the bonus cues that were included, especially the cue from The Quill Is Mightier(fishin part),oh,i was completely satisfied!
Though, there is a complain:i can't understand, why after 6 cd's,the producers don't do a cd including cues like:M'laila's song, the cues from the Bacchaen festival, music from Deja Vou All Over Again, where in the end,Gabrielle says to Xena those wonderful words,or even the scene of the kiss in The Quest! That,i can't understand it!
Last, i believe that whoever likes LoDuca's music style, should buy this cd.
Pay attention to the 22 cue:Pas De Deux Femmes. It is one of a something and whoever remembers what's the scene of this song, will agree with me!Mmmm!
