2.0 out of 5 stars A Fine Tie-In But ...
As much as I hate to disagree with the glowing reviews of other readers I found this book a disappointment, especially when compaired to the same book written of its friendly-competitor "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys". While the H:TLJ Companion is detailed and has in depth interviews with both lead actors (Sorbo & Hurst) we pretty much get Lucy Lawless...

This book is basically the Bible for Xenites. With tons of color and balck and white pictures, you can't miss. There is a in-depth look at the making of the show, including the step by step process of editing, directing, prop making, costume designing, and the music that goes with the show. One littlle tibet I found particularly interesting was that they included the lyrics to the Xena theme song, both the Bulgarian words and their English counterpart. This book also includes detailed plot synoposes of each and every episode of the first through second seasons. This section has a special "Lucy's Take" with her outlook on every episode, which is neat. This book is pack full of Xena goodness (and badness, if you like the evil Xena, with tons of backround on her appreance on Hercules). This book is a must have and essential to any fans collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most professional treatment of Xena a fan can give, December 13, 2000
This review is from: Xena: Warrior Princess (Paperback)
I've met Rob Weisbrot. You wouldn't think he's a hardcore nutball (what Lucy Lawless calls her most dedicated fans) but he is a Xenite through and through. He's also a professional historian who teaches at a northwestern college. The man can talk to a room full of people.

But more importantly, he gave Xena fandom its first step into the world of print by impressing Renaissance Pictures and Universal Studios with his enthusiasm that when it became clear he was going to write some fan books they realized they'd better get him on board.

So, we have the official guide to Xena written by a true Xena fan. Weisbrot took the time to interview producers, writers, and cast members. He visited the sets and watched all the episodes. He understands the subject matter thoroughly, and his love of ancient Greek mythology is an added bonus. You can't go wrong by buying this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars I Love This Book!, March 1, 2000

This is a great behind the scenes look at one of television's most clever shows. If you are a Xena fan, this is a MUST have. Beyond that it is an excellent behind the scenes look at ANY television series because it covers all areas of production - script revisions, editing, special effects, casting of both main and extra characters, stunts, and more. Plus you get the usual cast bios and epsiode summaries. The only problem (as most reviewers note) is that the episode guide only covers the first two seasons. We are all anxiously awaiting that second edition. Also enjoyable is the ability for the creators of Xena to poke fun at their chronological inconsistencies. You will find an amusing time line at the end of the book. Buy it =)

4.0 out of 5 stars A good book, but needs an update, January 29, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Xena: Warrior Princess (Paperback)
This is a very informative book. It talks about the making of the show and really made me want to push into the world of amature movie-making. It tells you whayt to look for in tyhe speacil effects department, which is interestying. From Lucy's takes you know what was happening during filming. Unfortunately it only runs through season 2. It wasa also missing character biographies which I had hoped for. There are only about 15 color pics and 100's of black and white. All in all it's good but not perfect.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Passion, The Fury, The Xenaverse, August 3, 2008
This review is from: Xena: Warrior Princess (Paperback)
Robert Weisbrot's paperpback book `Xena: Warrior Princess, The Official Guide to the Xenaverse' is an entertaining and informative presentation which chronicles the first two seasons of the immensely popular television series that lasted six delightful seasons.

Making good use of the same format used in his episode companion for the Hercules series, he provides not only a synopsis of each show from season 1 and 2 but also loads of behind the camera information providing the reader with a thorough grasp of what is involved in bringing the Xenaverse into existence.

Definitely an enjoyable and informative read sure to be treasured by Xena fans everywhere. The only question I have for the author is "When are you going to complete what you've begun and release a follow-up covering seasons 3, 4, 5 and 6?"

4.0 out of 5 stars Needs updating but otherwise -great!, September 8, 2000

This review is from: Xena: Warrior Princess (Paperback)
This is a really good book for Xena fans. The best thing about it is it has lots and lots of pictures - and many of them are in colour. There's also some good Hercules info. The book is full of info for any die-hard Xena fans -about the stunts/costumes/producers etc. There are also good summaries of the first two series but the problem is that it desperately needs updating. I don't know if they plan on extending this book so it covers the recent series' but if so it would be worth waiting for. This book is better than the Hercules one that accompanies it if only because it's not full of spelling mistakes! The Xena timeline at the end is quite amusing aswell.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fantastic Book !, July 1, 2000
This review is from: Xena: Warrior Princess (Paperback)
This book has many many great pictures of Xena, Gabrielle and the other cast. Very informative and a nice book to have with you if you are a fan of Xena. If you read this and don't really think much of the writing, then the pictures will surprise you and it is really worth buying... This book is a must have for all XENA FANS... Until then, battle on Xenites..! Al-la-la-la-la-la-la!
