Product Description

This cast cover is completely watertight, keeping your bandages, prosthetics, and casts dry. It is the only leg and arm cast protection in the world with the patented vacuum seal to keep your bandage or cast dry. It is so completely and totally waterproof, between the waterproof fabric and the vacuum seal, that you can even dive off a diving board, ride the ocean waves,or scuba dive and still have your cast stay completely dry. Arm and Leg Cast Covers are designed to fit snugly, especially the opening at the end of the cast cover where the arm and leg cast covers must remain sealed. To create a good vacuum seal the opening for your specific cast cover needs to be smaller than your limb. ARM : 1. Measure from the tip of the middle finger to the top end of the cast or prosthetic. If the cast goes above the elbow, follow the bend of the arm. If the cast is close to the elbow then measure to the mid bicep. Don't worry if the waterproof cast cover is too long. The excess material of the cast sock will flatten down when the air is pumped out. Measure on the skin above the cast, not on the cast itself. Make sure that the cast cover is at least 2 inches longer than the cast. 2. Measure the circumference of the arm just above the cast or bandage (If the end of the cast is very close to the elbow, measure mid bicep.) LEG : Measure from the back of the heel (from the floor) to the top end of the cast or prosthetic. If the cast ends close to the knee you will need to measure up to the mid thigh. Don't worry if the waterproof cast cover is too long. The excess material of the cast sock will flatten down when the air is pumped out. Measure on the skin above the cast, not on the cast itself. Make sure that the cast cover is at least 2 inches longer than the cast. 2. Measure the circumference of the leg just above the cast or bandage (If the end of the cast is very close to the knee, measure mid thigh.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Xerosox cast cover really works!!!!, August 1, 2006
By
Media Professor (Birmingham, AL USA) - See all my reviews
We had a beach vacation planned, but before we left, our son broke his arm. We got a waterproof cast with the thought that he could wear it in the ocean. After the cast was put on, however, the doctor warned us that he should avoid the ocean to avoid getting sand in the cast. If there was sand in the cast, the doctor said, it would be dangerous when the cast was sawed off -- the grains of sand would cause serious danger.

This was a big blow to us. In desperation I searched the internet and found the Xerosox. We ordered one somewhat skeptically and tried it out in the local pool. Wow, it worked! The cast cover works by creating a vacuum seal over the arm (or leg). We half expected the water to leak in where the cover sealed against the bare skin on his arm. However, it worked! His arm was dry -- no leakage. The only dampness was from sweat (his cast vented sweat at the elbow, and that was a tad damp, but not where the cover sealed on the skin).

We took the Xersox cover to the beach, and it worked beautifully. Each day our son was out in the rolling Atlantic surf. Three days the surf was quite wild -- it would knock you down and kicked up a lot of sand, that type of thing. Our son had no trouble with the cast cover, even on those rough-water days. We also didn't worry. We could tell at a glance that the cover was sealed and that the vacuum hadn't leaked. Once his cousin accidentally knocked the valve to the cast cover open, but we quickly resealed it and could tell by looking that the vacuum seal on the arm had not been broken.

The only hardship, if you can call it that, is that the cast cover should be loosened periodically to reduce the tightness on the arm. The directions say you should loosen it once every 45 minutes. We pushed this to an hour and had no ill effects. I did have to wear a waterproof watch to keep track of the time, but that was no problem. We'd get our son out, rinse our hands, loosen the cover, let the arm rest a minute, then reseal the cast in the Xerosox and send our son back into the water.

Today my son had his cast changed, and he had a glowing report from doctor and technicians. The Xerosox satisfied everyone -- my son, us, the medical personnel. I'd recommend Xerosox to anyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Would have worked but..., August 6, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Xerosox Waterproof Cast Cover - Extra Small Full Arm 6" - 7" (Health and Beauty)
This item would have worked. We put it on my daughters good arm to test it out and it was great... but because my 2 year old broke her fingers and had the full arm cast with her hand completely covered by the cast it just did not fit. Both me and my husband together tried to stretch it over her arm cast but it just would not work over the largest part of her hand. We actually got it over one time but because it has the glove part with the thumb her cast covered hand would just not fit and it made the whole cover too short to go over her whole arm cast. Then, when we tried to remove it, it was so tight that we thought we were going to crack her cast taking it off. I wish they made a model for the type of cast she has because if it would have fit over her hand this would have worked.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not returnable, August 2, 2010

This review is from: Xerosox Waterproof Cast Cover - Extra Small Full Arm 6" - 7" (Health and Beauty)
My 7 year old son broke his wrist and the Dr.'s office gave us a brochure for Xerosox. I took his measurements and ordered. Unfortunately, he couldn't even get his hand into the x-small size. When I decided to exchange for the next size up I was told by Medical Department Stores that Xerosox are not returnable or exchangeable. That would have been nice to know before I placed the order. Now I am stuck with this and my son is still out of the water.
