Scanning has come a long way over the past few years, and you can now thankfully get a very respectable model without breaking the bank. The 2400 from Xerox is a flatbed fitting that bill. While the low price tag is the first thing most people will notice, the 2400 also provides a 600 x 1,200 dpi hardware resolution (up to 9,600 x 9,600 dpi interpolated) and 36-bit color depth, so your scans are bright, accurate, and full of life.

Most people aren't scanning experts, nor do they want to spend their time becoming one, so the 2400 has preset scanning modes designed with exactly such users in mind. Select from one of six modes (OCR, copying, black-and-white photo, color document--faster, color document--better quality, and custom), press scan, and presto!

The software bundle includes Scansoft Textbridge Pro OCR, so you can scan documents and easily convert them to editable text. MGI's PhotoSuite III SE provides control over a range of scanner settings and has tools to help you get the best possible scans. The 2400's 8.5-by-11.69-inch platen fits most document sizes with ease, while the USB interface makes connecting the scanner to your computer a snap. Compatible with PC operating platforms only, the 2400 comes backed by a one-year limited warranty.
