Friendy, Powerful, but driver update problem, May 10, 2001
This review is from: Xerox WorkCentre M950 Color Flatbed All-in-One (Office Product)
I have this for home use, not a Home Office or anything, just personal use. It's much easier and cheaper than buying a Printer AND a Scanner. It has MORE than I ever could ask for: Scan to E-Mail, Fax, Legal-Size scanning, photo quality, etc. It is VERY user friendly. It has GREAT tools with it. The only problem was when I went to update the Driver. I installed everything from the CD first. Then I got the driver update from the website. Trying to install it, it said that there was "incompatible Xerox Software". It wanted me to uninstall all Xerox Printing software before installing this new driver. I ran the Uninstaller. This removed the driver AND all the bundled software (Pagis & TextBridgePro). I then installed the new driver. Then I went to install the bundled software from the CD. The setup program would not let me run it. It said that there was "incompatible Xerox Software". So the "setup.exe" program on the CD identified the new driver as incompatible software! I had to browse through the CD, find the seperate Pagis and TextBridgePro install files. And run each of them. The AutoRun Setup program on the CD will not work if you update the driver! Besides that, once I got it going... it's a dream!!!! It's fast and does quality work. An EXCELLENT value.

Ah sweet mystery of life at last I found you..., April 6, 2001
This review is from: Xerox WorkCentre M950 Color Flatbed All-in-One (Office Product)
The M950 is the small business person's Prince (or Princess) Charming. This machine replaced a stand alone Xerox copier, an old HP laser printer, and an Epson Stylus Photo printer. It is a great machine. The colors are very true to life and the black/white printing is great even in the lowest quality mode (no graininess or streaks). The 20 page auto document feeder works great, and the documents come out in such a way as to make for simple 2-sided copies. The machine is also a color scanner and fax, which I haven't yet used. The set-up and software installation was easy, and Xerox service is THE best, and I mean it. Excellent quality machine, but I took off a star because it is a little slower than advertised, but it's still fine even for a small business. It makes legal and letter size copies, enlarges and reduces from 25%-400% and looks like a machine that costs 3x as much. You will be delighted with the quality of the M950 and the exceptional Xerox service (no I don't work for them or have stock in the company. :)

Extremely Disappointed!!!, July 1, 2001
This review is from: Xerox WorkCentre M950 Color Flatbed All-in-One (Office Product)
I bought this Printer and was extremely excited, it copies, prints, and scans all for under three hundred dollars. It was easy to set up, the work center looked good, and the work center is a navigation center where you can print/scan/copy whatever you want. It's a USB printer, so there's not much work in terms of installing, you just pop in the CD-rom, and you're done.
For the first two days, this thing worked great, but then i ran into a problem. Many problems that lasted for 30 days (until i returned it!).
The first problem i ran into was during a standard print job, one page of text, nothing fancy, just standard college essay text. Did it print?...NO! I then pressed the print button again and again and again, until 10 print jobs were in progress, i was racing against time, my paper was due right then! it still gave me nothing, it just sat there like a big piece of plastic, not outputting anything. so i cancelled all of the print jobs, and 10 seconds later (after 2 minutes of requesting a print), it began to spew out ALL 10 print jobs! I then turned it off (after the printing had finished and rushed to school).
the next day, i tried to scan an image, and i ran into another problem. I hit the scan button, and the machine froze...the picture was only passport sized! the bleeding thing was getting me vexed. not only did it show a stellar performance the very first day i got it, but now it was doing anything but its job! (let me say, i keep the printer off until i want to use it, so it wasnt overheating or anything like that).
Then over the past month, i have been having problems with the machine, it prints at times and when it doesn't feel like it, it doesnt print at all (this is most of the time). 7 out 10 times, the machine doesnt print, scan or even photocopy...yes, even the photocopier began to act up.
The photocopier started to behave like a rebel just today (that was the last straw, i returned it today, 30th day). not only does this machine want to undermine my authority, but when it does so, i have to unplug it from the wall to restart it....yeah, did i mention that already? when it freezes, you cant turn it off by hitting the power button, it seems to be disabled, instead, i have to reach down under my desk and unplug and then plug in the friggin thing.
If you need work out of this giant plastic paperweight and its crunch time (you need it then and there) dont look towards XEROX M950, it wont produce the work. It has a vendetta against its owners. Seriously though, i strongly recommend that you do NOT purchase this printer. It is not worth the frustration and effort, and definitely the $.
The print quality is nice, so is the scan, but its a problem getting it to do all of these things. I hope you take this into serious consideration...I just returned mine today. Now, im looking for a multitasker that actually, dare i say, WORKS!
