This is the third one I have purchased and am satisfied. Two are used on the network to allow access to data from any PC and in a Raid config for safety.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great product for the price, December 31, 2008
This review is from: Klegg Netdisk Mega Enlc (Personal Computers)
I have had a Netdisk on my home network for the past 4 years (may have been longer, cant remember), and I bought a 250gb NDAS directly from Ximeta. It has been a great storage solution for my home networking needs. Although I realize that PATA is going the way of the dinosaur, as long as you arent streaming HD video or graphic intensive files, I think it makes a great solution for your storage needs. Its a VERY easy setup, and since PATA (EIDE, IDE - all the same) drives are cheaper now, and the enclosure is retailing for $25, its worth the investment (IMHO). I am currently using my drive for music files, and LIBRONIX by Logos Software, and have had good experiences with it. I am buying a new enclosure and drive because the old one has failed, but I am positive that its failure had nothing to do with the Netdisk system.

One thing I would definately suggest is that you bookmark the website for XIMETA so that you can periodically check for firmware / software updates, as the software does not do so on its own.

Is it PERFECT? No. It does however do a good job for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great idea for the right market, December 11, 2008

The prime benefit of this technology is to use a storage device as a poor man's SAN to build up a network. One limitation of (Windows IIS)web servers is that the web site runs in a local system account which by default has no network access. With this technology you can build an expandable web site since the drive appears like a local system hard drive, and you can share the drive with multiple web servers. I do hope this company can get their gigabit model to market, then it could really take off. One suggestion: Use the USB interface to format the hard drive first. I am running one NDAS drive with two virtual servers and it appears like a local drive on each server as a storage pool.
