This review is from: Xigmatek Nepartak S983 H.D.T. 3 heat pipes with 92mm fan CPU cooler (Personal Computers)
I have worked with a number of cpu coolers. My first experience was trying to keep two dual core 2.8GHz Opterons cooled in our office environment. I went through a lot of cpu coolers and in the end I went with a water-cooled solution. For our desktop machines, I still tried a number of air-cooled cpu coolers because a water-cooled system was expensive. I had an AMD 6000+ dual core cpu that seriously challenge the OEM AMD heat pipe for the dual core Opteron. I then moved to a Phenon X3 black that essentially exceeded the cooling capability of the AMD stock cooler. Performing another review of the available CPU coolers, I saw that the most effective ones were HUGE. All of my workstations have full towers so space wasn't a concern, I just did not want to mount one of those huge heat sinks. I have been using Xigmetak fans for a while because their performance and noise levels are outstanding. I thought that I would give one of their CPU coolers a try and I found that this model had excellent online reviews. Long background, but you understand that I am familiar with cpu air coolers and my expectations are high.

Installation of this cooler on an AMD cpu is EASY, especially in comparison with its competitors (no separate mounting brackets or screws). I believe that I installed the cooler in five minutes and that included applying the thermal paste. My X3 Black is overclocked to 3 GHz and with the AMD cooler it was idling around 46 C and going up to 58 C at full load with my room temperature at 26 C. When the S983, the Black idles around 34 C and I do not believe that it has exceeded 42 C at full load.

The S983 is a superb cpu cooler because it has excellent performance without having the bulk of its competitors.
