First off, I want everyone to know this lighter is amazing. The dual-torch will light just about anything (even Nubs,) in a matter of seconds. The quality is what you would expect of a Xikar, and the lifetime warranty makes the price worth it. I have a Bugatti B-1 torch that I received from Cigar.com for free on a deal, and that lighter is supposed to be top-quality and worth $100, but even using Xikar fuel (which is supposed to be the best,) I can't get it to light more than a few times after filling it. So, I decided to go ahead and buy a Xikar with a punch (I really enjoyed the punches on my Bugatti, and even considered getting the Xikar Versa to replace it since its almost exactly the same.) Two problems have popped up with the Element since I received it. I immediately filled it with Xikar fuel after using the MTX multi-tool to purge the tank and make sure it had no gas or air in it. It took over 15 seconds to even get the fuel gauge half full, so even with dual-torch, one tank should last a while. However; as I pulled out the punch (which surrounds the adjustment wheel,) to turn to the lowest level before filling, it literally pulled the adjustment wheel off. I recently destroyed a cheap lighter by doing that, and I was terrified; thinking I would have to return it right after receiving it. However; this turned out to be a pretty good thing. There is a slot inside the fuel-valve hole that lines up with a groove on the adjustment wheel making it possible to pop back on without any difficulty. If this were not the case I probably would never have been able to get the lighter to work. The adjustment wheel only turns so far either way, and I couldn't get the lighter to work AT ALL after letting the fuel return to room temp after filling the lighter. My remedy was to remove the adjustment wheel and use needle-nose pliers to turn the fuel valve up higher, then replace the adjustment wheel in the range where it works. Now the lighter works fine, and I can adjust my flame to a perfect high or low setting. I believe this may have just been an issue where it wasn't properly calibrating before leaving the factory, but luckily I knew a little bit about the mechanics of the lighter and was able to get it working. However; if someone had received this lighter and didn't know that turning the valve itself would adjust the flame level they would have had to return it for a replacement or refund, and for that I'm only giving four out of five stars.
Pros: Wonderful dual-torch flame with the capacity to light huge cigars in seconds, finely crafted punch that gives me much less trouble than my Bugatti B-1 punches (which incidentally can be removed from the arm of that lighter and would sometimes push out of the arm while trying to use them >=(,) beautiful craftsmanship, Xikar lifetime warranty
Cons: Horrible calibration that I had to fix with a little ingenuity, the flame-adjustment wheel can pop off when pulling the punch arm out (but it will pop right back on,) the punch is so wide that it really can't be used for anything with a 42 gauge or smaller (coronas, pantellas, lanceros, etc.,) sometimes I have to push the button a couple times to get it lit (takes quite a fast push)
All in all, I'm completely happy with this purchase. I finally have a lighter I can rely on; and if there are any serious problems, I know Xikar will replace it for free. Just make sure you buy triple-refined butane or better, and you really can't go wrong with this lighter. Also, if you register the lighter on Xikar's website, they will send you a free leather sheath. The lighter doesn't fit very snug, but it will protect the finish, and I've read a lot of reviews about the gunmetal finish coming off pretty easily. Also, the punch is still a great feature, and even though I can't use it on smaller cigars, I still have the MTX Multi-Tool and that allows me to cut smaller gauge cigars (not to mention I have like 4 guillotine cutters, and one cheap V-cutter lol.)
Edit: 3-27-12!!! I had to return this lighter to Xikar because the spark stopped igniting the butane. Considering I was using only Purofine (Xikar's brand butane,) there should have been no problem. Oh well; it cost me less than $3 to ship to Xikar, and I made sure to register this as soon as purchased. Hopefully, when it comes back, I won't have this problem again, and maybe they can fix the adjustment wheel so it won't pop off anymore while they have it. Still a great lighter, and with the lifetime warranty I'm still completely happy with the purchase.
