This is great stuff for someone learning FPGA design,

Get the 1.5 version and then get the Service Pack from the Xilinx website (REQUIRED! ) Once you do that the software will work fine and you can do all of the exercises in the book. The demo boards from XESS (not included but you get a coupon) are great for putting together working circuits with the Xilinx parts.

This review is for Foundation 1.5. This is a good package for learning FPGA and CPLD design. Good way to learn VHDL and design synthesis. There are some bugs and problems and Xilinx is just as bad as Microsoft is -- release the product just to "get it out" and then release service packs to try and make it work. This program is no exception. You'll need to download the service pack from Xilinx. However, the service pack still doesn't fix all of the bugs, but it makes it a very useable product.
