3.0 out of 5 stars Taste Good but Made in China!
My dentist told me to get these mints to stop tooth decay. They taste great and I would have no problem EXCEPT that they are made in China. I didn't know that when I ordered them. After reading about the poisonous toothpaste, lead based toys and deadly dog food, I do not trust pharmaceuticals or other edibles compounded in China.

If they really do help with my cavities, I will call them a miracle!

Update: I used to have cavities every time I visited the dentist, every six months or so. But thanks to Xylitol, I haven't had a cavity in 2 years. IT'S A MIRACLE!!!

Works ok for breath, but that's not why I eat them. They taste great and my dentist said they are good for my teeth. We'll see what he says on my next visit in march. But otherwise these are very good tasting. Sweet, but not overpowering, and the fruit flavor is way more enjoyable than peppermint or a similar flavor.

I know when I hear the word "mint" I have expectations of mint flavour so I didn't know what to expect from these. There is NO mint flavour, only raspberry flavour. They're delicious!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent flavor, excellent dental care..., March 26, 2011

I'm actually a Dental student. I started myself on Xylitol when I learned of the advantages during dental school. Xylitol is a natural sugar that is not fermentable by bacteria. What that means is that it does NOT promote dental decay and in fact, Xylitol has been shown to actually reduce bacteria levels. Research is being done to figure out what in the Xylitol is actually doing the reducing, but for now, it is highly effective at reducing bacteria by 30-60% (YES THAT IS AN ENORMOUS PERCENT).

The user must have at least 6g of Xylitol/day across multiple instances. That equates to 4 of these mints after each of your daily 3 meals. The Spry gums have 50% more Xylitol content so, 8gums/day, chew for 5 min or until no longer sweet.

The berry flavor is just outstanding. I could replace popcorn during a movie with these (although not such a good idea to have either during an extended period). I've tried the lemon burst flavor too and it's not good. I could argue that the lemon burst flavor isn't even tolerable let alone good, and tastes rather acidic which would be bad for teeth...

Other things to note: This is not a sugar like Stevia or some other non-carious sugar. Stevia and sugars like it are good for diabetics and people with high caries risk because it's a natural sweetener that has none of the effects that sugar does (either on bacteria or the body). Non-carious sugars do not reduce bacteria. Xylitol actually reduces the presence of bacteria.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great sugar-flavor that's good for your teeth!, January 18, 2011

Let me start off by admitting that I thought I was going to be getting Spry berry flavored gum when I purchased this product. The package looks identical to the Spry gum packages and I just assumed it was gum, despite the 'mints' labeling. However after popping the first piece in my mouth, I knew this was not the case.

After a brief moment of disappointment, I was then hit by the realization that these taste really good! While it wasn't the gum I was expecting, I am still glad I got them.

When you first open the package you will get a strong odor resembling very closely the smell of Strawberry favored Nesquik milk. Even the color of these mints is pink. Not unlike its smell, the taste is very much similar to the strawberry flavored Nesquik milk as well. Very smooth sweet sugar-like taste, which has a surprisingly 'creamy' flavor texture to it. They remind me of some other sugar-flavored candies I have had in the past, but I just can't put my finger on it at the moment. Either way these are extremely tasty, and it wouldn't be hard to eat 2-3 dozen in one sitting!

As for the texture of these candies (which I will call candy, since they are definitely not mints) is tough at first with similarity in flavor, feeling and hardness to a jaw-breaker, then has a 'crumbly' texture once you bite down on them. But at first they are quite hard, so if you have weak teeth, beware not to just grab a handful and start chewing. After a few seconds of mouth-acid breakdown, they are easily chewed (or sucked on).

Overall I am presently surprised. I have had a few different Xylitol flavored 'mints' (Epic Dental fruit flavored Xylitol mints for example, which are still really good BTW) in the past, and these just might be the most interesting and tastiest. And you cannot beat the fact that they are good for your teeth! In a way it feels wrong to indulge on these because they taste so much like real sugar candies. But then you remind yourself that they are essentially the exact opposite of sugar, and you pop in a few more pieces!

However, I am docking one star because as others have pointed out, there is Chinese raw materials used in this product (I would assume the Xylitol is from China). And like others, when it comes to food, I do not trust Chinese products. Most everything is made in China nowadays, but I draw the line when it comes to things I am going to ingest. But they taste so good you are willing to look the other way to enjoy these. Although I probably wouldn't get them again for this reason. Once Spry stops using China based raw materials for their gum and mints, I might just become a lifetime buyer. But until then, I will stick to other mint and gum products not influenced by Chinese materials.

5.0 out of 5 stars I use for dental health..., September 15, 2011

I give these to our 5 year old and we all pop them a few times a day for dental health. Xyletol is WONFERFUL for teeth and the body in general. (For more info read "Kiss Your Dentist Goodbye" written by a dentist.) Flavor is tame compared to the mint one which is VERY strong.

Have used other Spry products and like them. This just has an awful taste to me. will bring them in to work and hope that someone else might like them. Each to his own. This was a real "yuk" for me.

I love these mints. They are a great deal for your money and have no dyes, preservatives, or anything else (e.g., aspartame or saccharin) that is bad for me. I definitely recommend them.
