Clean boost as well if you dial it in that way.

All I can say is, try to find a store that has one you can demo in-person.

Highly recommended for anyone trying to emulate a '70s style rock crunch.

I bought the BB Preamp in search of a nice dirt pedal that would emulate various '70s Marshall hard rock tones. This pedal reacts to my rig(s) the way few pedals have before. It's a great way to find those compressed, smooth and sustained drive sounds without getting too muddy.

I usually find myself fiddling with the volume knob on a guitar to dial in rhythm and lead tones, but this is the first time I've felt like that division was minimal. Usually when I dial in Zeppelin / Aerosmith style sounds, I turn up the gain to find a decent amount of sustain for solos and clean up with the volume knob for riffs. This is the first time I didn't really find myself fishing for those "sweet spots" during songs because the pedal often sounded clean enough to riff on yet sustained enough to solo.

That's just one way to use this pedal, but I found that it reacts quite well (and differently) with single coils and humbuckers. With a good amount of gain on tap and not one but three tone knobs, there's quite a bit of versatility to be found with this very earthy sounding drive pedal. You can find hard rock crunch and smooth blues within one sitting. Being something of a medium-gain pedal, it also stacks well with other drive or fuzz pedals.

Highly recommended for anyone trying to emulate a '70s style rock crunch. I'm actually surprised there aren't more botique or industry standard pedals of this type, but this is definitely the best one I've tried so far.

Really nice sounding gain. Clean boost as well if you dial it in that way. Just a pleasure to use!

I've bought maybe 10 overdrive/distortion pedals over the past few years looking for one that had that sweet sound I want for recording and live work. A friend of mine who plays professionally kept saying that I really needed to try the BB preamp. I put it off for awhile because of the expense. Anyway, when I got serious about buying the BB preamp, I noticed that people were saying the BB MB version really cut through the mix and was worth the few extra dollars. I watched the YouTube vids that compared the pedals and got the BB MB. When I took it to the first rehearsal the other guitar player (who is also a professional) asked "What did you do to get that awesome tone?" I showed him the BB MB and totally freaked out on how good it sounded.
If you are on the fence about spending the cash for this one, go ahead and check out those comparison YouTube videos and see what you think. I can assure you it's worth the money.
