It may seem goofy but it works!,

I had seen these around for years and a long time ago I was snobby enough to think I knew it all. I always was cynical enough to think it was simply a gimmick. But I couldn't have been more wrong. This is my second unit which I plan to gift to my tennis partner but I have one that I have used for over 5 years and I can tell you that this thing flat works. I get so much more life out on my tennis balls that I could ever hope to by just putting them back in their cans. As long as the felt is holding up your tennis balls will bounce as new as when they were first opened. As long as I am playing I won't be without one.

It works! Not that I'm surprised, because it makes perfect sense that it would.
Don't use Vaseline or Petroleum Jelly to lubricate the O-ring according to the instructions. I'm sure the manufacturer did it for convenience, because lubricating with something is better than nothing, and explaining why not to use vaseline is just too complicated, but take my expert word on this. I work with O-rings for a living and know for a fact that Vaseline or Crisco or Olive oil are the worst possible lubricants to use, because they will penetrate the O-ring and slowly over time cause it to swell up and eventually not work correctly. USE SILICONE GREASE LIKE THIS: [..] It's inexpensive and will not harm your O-ring.

I have 2 of these and love them. With the Tennis Ball Saver, I've used the same tennis balls for months no noticable loss in bounce. These are a must have for all tennis players and will save you lots of money on balls.

Like new after more than five years,

Four weeks ago, I started playing tennis again after more than five years, because of illness and injury. We opened a can of balls which were faulty because they played like soft balls. I happened to find my tennis ball saver in which I had put three balls the last time I played. I did not expect them to be any better than those from the "new can", but we felt we did not have anything to lose. Surprise! They played like they were new. We could not believe it! After more than five years!
I use them at weekends and they are still going well. I play on hard courts for about two hours each time in the afternoon sunshine in the Caribbean. Wonderful item, making for wonderful tennis!

Good as old,

I used to use a tennis ball compression can like this probably 20 years ago. Last year I got a similar product for Christmas and it just didn't do the job like my old one used to. Finally I got online and located the exact same old yellow ball save I had used before. And sure enough, it does work better.

I bought this item in an attempt to prolong the life of tennis balls. It does indeed keep the balls pressurized and lengthens the life of each ball and its easy to use.
If you play tennis everyday and you use your tennis balls often, this may not be of much use to you since you'll wear down the fuzz on the ball before you lose much pressure. But if you play a couple times a week or less, this item would be ideal for you and save you money in the long run.

I am old enough to remember my parents using this thing in the mid-1970s. You have to appreciate physics and engineering AND marketing to understand how beautiful this product is. It is two cylinders of plastic that fit together with screw threads and a rubber o-ring to make it airtight. It takes a certain volume of air and compresses it to increase the pressure. End of story. Nothing has changed in 40 years, not even -- and this is the perverse beauty of it -- the deliciously cheesy 1970's-style red-letter decals on its exterior. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
My only question is, why hasn't anyone been able to make a competing product that is AS GOOD? Forget "better"; I haven't even found "as good." We now own two, one for our tennis balls and one for our racquetballs. Booyah.

Does a good job of helping to hold the pressure on tennis balls. I have kept used balls in the tube for a month or more and pulled them out with enough life left in them to use. They are not the same as a brand new tube of balls, but for keeping warm-up and backboard balls good enough to use more than a couple of times, it does the trick.

I've owned one of these some time ago and it was permanently "borrowed" by a friend. It will not re-energize old balls but if you put a new can in there as soon as you're done playing you can get several more matches out of them. Saves me a bit of money throughout the summer.

I bought one of these over 20 years ago. Still works great. I wanted a second one and bought another brand at a local sporting good store and it gets stuck every time I try to close it. I decided to order another one of these Gexco savers since my first one worked so well.
