Climbing up the wall,
This review is from: Xtend & Climb 750P Aluminum Telescoping Ladder Type II Home Series, 8.5-Foot (Tools & Home Improvement)
A really handy solution of where to keep that ladder. This telescopic one can be kept in a small space and will be extremely useful if you do a professional job (surveyor for example) and need a ladder but drive a car.The weight is acceptable and I think the manufacturing of this model is robust enough for plenty of use. I have, though, found a slight design flaw: the rungs have right-angled edges so that when the unit is leaning against something you place your foot on the apex of the rung. I'm surprised that this hasn't been solved by slightly curving the edge of the rungs, like any normal ladder. It could be, of course, that this problem will be solved with the next model and advertised as: Now with new improved rungs! Good little folding ladder, just as described, but was narrower than I'd expected.Pros: - Collapses down nicely, as-expected. Very compact, easy to store/move. - Easy to use. It comes with good instructions/quick-use guides but it's a pretty intuitive operation - anti-finger-snapping-mechanism. I'm sure they have a fancy, marketing name for it, but they've built it such that when you're re-collapsing the ladder it can't collapse down on your fingers. Very nice feature. Cons: - Heavier than I'd expected. Not back-breaking-heavy, but weightier than expected. (still pretty easy to move around) - Stickers came off. As noted here (or maybe it was in the review for the 12ft model), the little colored stickers that help indicate 'locked' or 'unlocked' were coming off before I even opened it. Not too big a deal, they're a 'nice-to-have' - as long as you're reasonably careful, you won't even notice. I probably wouldn't if it hadn't been specifically called out in another review. - Narrow. I'm not a tiny guy, but I'm also not *that* large (adult male, ~6' 2", 210lbs). This ladder felt very narrow climbing up it. Was a bit of an uncomfortable feeling. Outstanding questions: - Durability: The components are all solid enough, but I'm a little concerned about the over-all fitting. I've only had the unit for a short while and haven't had too many occasions to use it. I'll be curious to see how well it would survive more vigorous/long-term use. One word of advice: I bought the 8.5' version and immediately regretted it. I should have gone one size higher/longer. Remember that when you use a ladder like this you aren't (shouldn't) be pointing it straight up. You'll want to angle it a bit for stability. So get a ladder that's a bit longer than you think you'll need.

Needed a ladder small, compact and lightweight to reach attic space. Fits between wall and bookshelf inconspicuously. Sturdy for the men in the household.

This thing is a neat piece of kit. It's more well-built than I expected it to be. It is light and compact and functions decently well.My first use was the only problem, I eagerly set it up next to a parking garage and ignored all the warnings emblazoned on it about fingers and getting caught in the rungs. The only thing is, when you hit the catch release, the rung above slams down on the rung below. It's unfailingly easy to avoid as long as you know that. Nothing about the mechanism protects your fingers, the user is expected to read the warning labels, which I find bad practice. It flexes some as i ascend with my mere 165 lbs. It's light enough to carry easily, small enough for the trunk of my car, easily. In fact, it's portable enough that I've considered ways to abuse it, to bring a ladder to situations where a ladder is not expected and conduct guerrilla climbing. At an outdoor venue with no space? Ladder to a tree branch and take it up with you.

This ladder is amazing.Goes up easy by sliding each section. Goes down just as easy, (I found the informercial to be very informative on safely collapsing this product) Easy to carry and store. I now can reach my storage locker on my roof of my RV. I would recommend this to a friend.

I would NOT use this ladder as the main ladder of a house, for serious repair jobs, for hauling items up to the roof, etc.I would use as a secondary ladder for small spaces. This ladder is PERFECT for a light-use primary ladder in an apartment or condo. It will store in a small space, but gives you the height of a full ladder. I have a very small attic opening that has been brilliantly positioned directly above the clothes dryer. The dryer is big enough that it is impossible to use a floor standing ladder to reach the opening. I use the Xtend & Climb ladder on the dryer itself and extend it to the attic opening. Of course, I do not recommend anyone do this for a whole host of safety reasons, but I needed it in a pinch until I can make a new attic opening elsewhere. Compressed, the ladder is small enough that it easily fits in an opening under my kitchen counter. It is lightweight and very easy to extend. Retracting the ladder is not difficult, but you kind of have to let each level slam down. If you are averse to loud noises, as I am, there is the temptation to use your fingers to slow the retraction, which could lead to pinching. The ladder feels very solid when extended, although I haven't had a serious use for it extended all the way out. The rubber feet hold well and are slightly angled on each side to compensate for the leaning of the ladder. The rungs on the ladder are pretty darn narrow though. I would not carry anything heavy or large while climbing the ladder. It might not be a good ladder for someone who does not have relatively good dexterity and balance. I could see someone who is larger or older maybe having a difficult time with it.

I used this ladder to access my boat when its on the hard and on my roof. It is solid, compact and durable. I store it in the trunk or in a small closet when I am not using it.BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU ARE RETRACTING THE LADDER! It is very easy to pinch your fingers if you aren't careful.

No better camper ladder out there!,

I have a camper van, with a high roof rack and roof box where i keep lots of camping gear, bikes, etc. I do not have a rear door ladder nor will i be that guy with an aluminum ladder tied to the back of his rig, how hideous!!!! This is an amazing invention for the camping set, and also great to have around the house and just store in a closet for general household uses. You won't scratch up a doorframe or gouge the drywall anymore trying to walk your outdoor utility ladder in to the house to hang that picture or clear some webs out of the corner of the vaulted ceiling. The ladder itself is made very well, with no sharp edges on the telescoping parts or near the buttons where you would get pinched on a cheap knock-off. the quality of this ladder is impressive. I wish i could afford two, one for the house and one for the camper, but it's so compact i just keep it nearby. One word of caution, it does have a 225 lb. rating, so it might not be a great choice if you're a big guy or gal. I'm not too far under that myself, so i'll have to be careful hauling heavy things up the ladder and onto the roof of the camper. It is well made though, and surprisingly sturdy for it's size.

I just received my ladder and it's perfect. Compact, sturdy, and easy to use, it is just what I've been looking for.I live in a place that's under 500 SF and I needed something to access my storage area and not take up a huge amount of space when I wasn't using it - this fits the bill. I was tired of hauling around a standard 8' wooden or fiberglass ladder every time I needed to get at something or put it away. Don't have to fret about that anymore. Even after reading the reviews and instructions, I managed to give myself a small blood blister by not watching the placement of my fingers but lesson learned. Pay attention new users. I love it! Thank you for a great product.

Got this for hubby for Christmas. The BIG BOX under the tree was the first hit, and then the ladder itself. We have lots of plans for this ladder, and the storage space it uses is the very best gift of all.I also ordered the Pivot Ladder Tool by ProvisionTools to go with it. Now we might actually get the stairwell painted! |
