It plays every file I have thrown at it: shn, flac, mkv, mp4, mov, avi, mp3, you name it.

There are two USB 3.0 slots on the side but if you attach a Seagate 3.0 TB and a Western Digital 3.0 it won't work.
Scott J. Fletcher
It has a hard time recognizing movies (mine caught about 80% - much lower than Ember or Boxee catches).

I had an old Xtreamer that was getting noisy, so I decided I would get something new. I tried the AIOS based on the reviews. . . total POS.

The Xtreamer not only looks and feels better than the AIOS but the video quality that it delivers is /FAR/ superior.

The only downside is the Xtreamer specific content - their links and apps- are hit and miss as to what will load and what won't. I didn't use them on my old Xtreamer and I don't see using them on this one either so no bother there. It plays every file I have thrown at it: shn, flac, mkv, mp4, mov, avi, mp3, you name it. It is also a fanless unit so it is completely silent. The UI looks great compared to my old Xtreamer and it blows the doors off the clunky and ugly feel of the AIOS.

I wish they had some kind of real distribution in the states. Getting it through Amazon was much cheaper than paying the international freight.

I returned this item because I couldn't get it to work using multiple hard drives. There are two USB 3.0 slots on the side but if you attach a Seagate 3.0 TB and a Western Digital 3.0 it won't work. It also won't work with the larger 4.0 TB Seagate drives. I found the Sidewinder 2 more compatible and ultimately returned the Sidewinder 3 model and order two Sidewinder 2 models. I have both Seagate and Western Digital working perfectly on the Sidewinder 2 with the newest version of their software.

Amazon was absolutely fantastic regard the return. My money was back in my account almost immediately. I am a true Amazon fan. Thanks for everything.

The Jukebox that is built into the SideWinder 3 is quite poor. It has a hard time recognizing movies (mine caught about 80% - much lower than Ember or Boxee catches). I could have lived with that, except there is no access to the database via a web browser. So, to correct the entries, you have to do it on screen, which is horribly painful.

Also the jukebox does not deal with TV shows at all. This is a major problem. Unlike Boxee, where each show gets a single entry, and then under it the episode listings sorted by season, SideWinder either skips them entirely (in most cases), or creates an entry for each episode. If you have your tv shows mixed in with movies (which, thank God, I didn't), it makes a hell of a mess.

For now, I use it in its most basic mode, navigating through shares and folders to play my content. It does seem to play just about any format, which is great, but your standard ASUS Oplay! box will do that and a lot cheaper. I'm hopeful that they might update the firmware at some point to deal with these challenges.

Would avoid for now.
