WORTH EVERY PENNY,
This review is from: XtremeMac Airplay Boost FM Transmitter for iPod nano 2G (Silver) (Electronics)
I have spent more money than I can count on FM transmitters for various iPods that I have had. By far, This is the best. Very easy to set up and use. If fact, it came with no instructions--its that easy--plug and play. No downloading of channels on the iPod either. If you have a Nano, you have to have this for your car.

Originally I was going to use this in the car. However, I find I use it more at work and home with other FM radios and receivers. I have had not problems with static (other local station) and I do live in a large metropolitan area (Washington DC). I believe that the static issue a reviewer mentions is more of a receiver issue than the FM Transmitter.
The sound quality is not CD quality, but FM usually isn't. Overall I think its a great little product that actually looks like it belongs to the iPod and works in a car, home, office, hotel, etc.

I have used the iTrip for the past couple of years and while it works great in areas where the selected frequency is clear, it is virtually impossible to change the frequency on the fly when I drive into an area where there is interference... particularly if traffic is thick. The Airplay can be adjusted without interrupting play (as others can) but it also has 3 station presets which I have matched to 3 station presets on my car radio. When I encounter interference (such as when passing through cities on the interstate), I switch between the presets until I find a clear frequency. Why not a 5? The buttons feel cheap... if they hold up over time, it will be a 5.

Disappointing performance,

I was very disappointed with this new model. Despite its cool specifications, including displaying the broadcast frequency on the nano screen, it didn't perform as well as the older model (designed for 1st-gen iPod nano). The signal was weak, there was a lot of static. Adjusting the broadcast antenna, and moving the unit around to different locations inside the car didn't help. The older model (which I still have, and which does work with the 2nd-gen nano) performs much better. By the way, both my cars (Honda Accord and Pilot) have their radio antennas embedded in the rear/rear-side windows - which should help in-car reception with this type of product. It didn't help with the Airplay Boost (2nd-gen).
Performance inside my house (through various FM receivers) was similarly disappointing. I returned the Airplay Boost for a refund (minus the restocking fee). In its place I bought the Griffin iTrip for Nano 2G which is awesome and far exceeds my expectations - for about the same price.

I just got this a couple of days ago and it has been working great. The radio in my pickup doesn't have any problem picking up the signal from it and it plays my music loud and clear.
I tried one of those big blocky things that you plug into the cigarette lighter with the built in FM transmitter and clamps onto your iPod. It's suppose to charge your iPod and transmit to the radio at the same time. It charges my iPod OK but I only got the thing to transmit twice for less than a minute.3 in 1 Charging and Car Holder FM Transmitter for iPod, iPod 5G [Video] (30GB, 60GB) iPod Nano (1GB, 2GB, 4GB) iPod Photo (30GB, 40GB, 60GB) iPod Mini (4GB, 6GB) iPod 3G/4G (10-40GB, U2 Edition) Now, with this neat little transmitter I can use it and the other thing to charge my iPod. There is one little thing about it. It does run down the battery in the iPod after a little while. I set it to playing over the radio in my garage while I was working on a project the other day and it lasted for about 4 hours before the battery ran down. When I first tested it with my home theater sound system set to FM radio it didn't want to work unless it was right next to the receiver and I was starting to get disappointed.Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX265 Home Theater System But I think its more the Sony receivers fault than this little transmitter. Other radios that I tried it with, in my truck, the small one in my garage, my dads bigger boom box, it worked great with all of them. So overall, I very happy with the performance, ease of use, price, and looks of this little doodad. UPDATE Well, I was very happy with this. It only lasted about 3 months then it died. First I could no longer change the frequency that it played over then it quit all together. Bummer.

Don't really like the antenna on the side and the range isn't all that great but it does allow me to listen to my iPod Nano through any radio.

Airplay boost,

Not impressed with this particular transmitter. I have had earlier models for the larger Ipod that have worked much better. Reception can be a little hazy. However, RFI or other interference could be the culprit. The additional antenna should have increased distance and reception, but from testing it, I found that the maximum distance you can travel from the receiver is about the same as other XtremeMac devices.
