Customer Questions & Answers

Customer Reviews

The sound quality is very good, and the Iphone App works great.
Comparing to an older Altec Lansing '2-speaker' dock, the Altec Lansing sounded much better.

As for the Bluetooth feature, it is very easy to pair with all of your phones and tablets.

XtremeMac "Tango" is a handsome, 5-speaker digital audio receiver. Designed specifically for the iPhone/iPod Touch and iPad owners, this system works well with ALL smartphones that have a Bluetooth connection.

One of the first things I noticed is that this 1-piece speaker system is solidly built. It has a foam mesh that covers the front panel and conceals two 3" mid-range speakers and two 1" tweeters. On the right corner lies the volume knob.

On the bottom a plastic grill covers a 4" woofer. On the top, right-hand side, there's a 4-button set that controls the bass, treble and the unit's controls.

Although it is a self-contained unit, the system lacks the true fidelity of a "better" speaker system. There's next to no lower register and as such dance-oriented music sounds almost acappella.

However, live and acoustic music sounds wonderful. Scrolling down my playlist, I came across John Denver's "I'm Sorry" and it sounded remarkable. The same thing for The Brentwood Jazz Quartet's, "My Heart." So, there's a trade-off even before we discuss the price issue.

While I was testing this model with a different smartphone, a call came in. Fidgeting to answer the phone, I (and everyone in the vicinity) heard my caller's voice, loud and clear. It was a scramble trying to find the volume button. I had to end up hitting the speaker button to cut off the Bluetooth reception!

Speaking about rooms. This is ideal for a small, enclosed room or a cubicle but, in an open area, it loses its vitality very quickly.

I think the retail price of $150 far exceeds what I think it worth in terms of what it offers and what also available out there.

I drive a semi truck over the road and the stereo in my company truck doesn't have an auxiliary stereo input. This has forced me to use earbuds when listening to my iPod. That's what prompted me to go looking for a sort of boombox that would work with Bluetooth. I'm very impressed with the Tango TRX. It has great sound and plenty of volume level. Also, the Bluetooth instantly paired as soon as I turned on the Bluetooth in my iPod Touch and it wasn't even necessary to enter the typical "0000" Bluetooth pairing code.

The video was recorded with my iPod Touch using the "Videolicious" app.

There is also a free iPod app available in the Apple App Store for the Tango TRX that gives a bit of additional functionality, including an equalizer function.

Overall I'm very impressed with this purchase. It is pretty much exactly what I was looking for as a long-needed alternative to earbuds.

I purchased this from a different vendor. So although I love Amazon and the great deals I have gotten here, I can not comment on that part of it.

Short condensed version - Plain and simple for the cost of under a hundred it is better than a lot of its competitors, that's why I bought it.

Long version
I saw some negative reviews and wanted to give my 2 cents. Because I thought this speaker deserved more. Other than a defective unit, I can't understand how this unit gets a bad wrap. I was not able to find any bluetooth ipod docks in this price range that go as loud, have this quality build, and have this sound. Is it perfect? Nope. You need to pay hundreds more to get that type of technology of sound excellence in a small box. You can't get that at this price level.

If you want high fidelity, excellent sound, use your home stereo, and use high quality reproductions, not downloaded music that is compressed, or open your wallet to get something costing hundreds more.

If you want to run your compressed music off your ipod or smart phone using bluetooth and want enjoyable sound off a semi small platform (size is a subjective term)at a relatively cheap price (my opinion) then this is a good unit.

How it worked for me
I have no issues using my android motorola bionic with this, blue tooth hook up using iheart radio.
My wife has an otterbox case on her ipod 4th gen, and while a little tough to push on dock (you need to bend back the rubber covering the connector port with a finger on each side) it will work, once you get the hang of it. its not to bad). Many of the ipod docks out there you cannot use with a such a large case on it, because it wont connect properly.

The XtremeMac Tango TRX 2.1 Wireless High-Fidelity Audio Unit packs a pretty good punch in a small package. The sound quality is clear to a point, although the bass always seems to be on the edge of distortion, even at lower volumes. It's rated at 30 watts, but, in my opinion, it's only powerful enough for casual listening in a bedroom or small office; this small unit is not suitable for blasting dance music at a party. For comparable products, there are less expensive computer type speakers or boom boxes with larger subwoofer units that are better suited for loud music in large rooms.

What sets the Tango apart from cheaper computer type speakers or boom boxes is its bluetooth capabilities; my iPod touch connected easily via the bluetooth panel in the Settings section (you can also dock your iPod/phone directly to the Tango). A convenient remote is included so you can place the unit across the room and still adjust volume, tone, etc.

My only complaint is the Xtreme app won't work on my older iPod touch without a system software upgrade; I've heard about too many problems with the Mac software upgrade (3.1) being buggy, especially around battery life, so I can't review the Xtreme software app.
