Cuts exceedingly close, October 22, 2010
This review is from: Xuron 410T Tapered Tip Shear
I use these to cut models from plastic sprues, and these are by far the best sprue cutters I've ever used. The tip is narrow enough to get extremely close to the model, while the edge is long enough to make it in one single cut. They cut clean and sharp, and get so close that you can't even see where the cut was made. I don't know how these are at cutting wire--and I don't intend to let my pair even attempt it, lest they be dulled--but for plastic, they're ideal.

MyXuron tools, October 18, 2008
This review is from: Xuron 410T Tapered Tip Shear
I purchased this and other Xuron fine cutters for my model railroad business and electronics lab. Primarily these are a great set of cutters that do the job first time right.
In fact this replaces my old cutters from Cooper tools and Fiskars fine cutters.
I am particularly biased to good tools made in USA, Germany or Switzerland and will pay the extra price to buy such tools, as I believe in perfection.
As an engineer, I believe that a tools should perform for it quality and purpose and not just price, so I do not buy cheap tools that breakdown after a few uses.
Xuron makes great tools and I have been totally satisfied with the quality and performance to these cutters. The design is professional and of technical excellence.
The tools are priced right for their quality and performance and am hoping to add a few more to my workshop.

Second Xuron product, first disappointment, October 13, 2011
This review is from: Xuron 410T Tapered Tip Shear
I own a pair of the Xuron hard wire cutter and am extremely pleased with them. Based off of that experience I purchased the 410T for cutting parts from sprues for plastic modeling and here are my reactions: The first thing I noticed was the grind for the cutting edge appeared rather unfinished, almost used. You can see daylight between the blades and the grind marks seem very coarse for such a tool. Second, the rivet joining the halves together had a lot of play. This was noticeable when handling and using the pliers. Neither of these things really impact how they perform when cutting pieces of plastic in the short term, however the feel of quality is not there in the pair of 410T shears I just received, unlike the hard wire cutter I also own. But, for cutting fine electrical wire, or small stranded conductors, these faults are just annoying and lead to poor and incomplete cuts of all the strands. Yes, I am picky about my tools. I made these observations in less than a minute after unpacking the cutters and considered returning them, but I will give them a shot to see how they hold up, and likely adjust the rivet and regrind the cutting surfaces my self. I'm torn because the quality and build of the hard wire cutters from Xuron are great, but I will likely never buy another Xuron product before examining it first hand.
