Product Description

A true "electronics production long nose plier" is what we had in mind when we designed the 485. Engineers and production managers told us traditional forged designs were too bulky and lacked the sensitive feel required for precision electronic assembly. Our 485 performs where the competition failed. 485 features a thin profile for access in high density areas.

I do chainmail jewelry so I spend a lot of time opening and closing rings of all sizes (all in tempered aluminum). I bought these along with the Xuron 450BN Bent Nose Pliers to add to my pliers. These were to be an addition to my flatnose, the smallest of the ones I have, and I've found myself using them most often. They're narrow enough to be useful with small rings, but wide enough to handle even bigger rings. Good and durable, well made and definitely worth the price.

I did file the jaws smoother as aluminum is easy to mar up, but I doubt most other metals would even notice the small 'edge' that was on the jaws of these. This is something to be aware of, though. Didn't take me long at all to smooth them out by hand.

The handle is actually very comfortable. I was expecting to have to do some adjustments to it, but I've found it fits nicely into my hands, better than any other pliers I've had. The material is a very solid plasticy-rubber with a quite nice 'velvety' feel to it. I have long hands for a female and they don't extend past my hands but aren't too small either. Even my husband said the fit is nice (and his hands are a bit bigger than mine).

These are also very well oiled (had to clean some off) which is better than most pliers I've tried (got a few other pairs before getting these ones and one was so stiff it took quite a bit of dousing with 3in1 to get them moving smoothly), and the jaws open quite wide as well if it's something that's important to you.

Can definitely recommend these if you're looking for flat nose pliers that are more narrow than most on the market. The price is fantastic and they're made in the USA if you're looking for that kind of thing as well.

This does have a setup and feel of a Xuron pliers, the trademark blue handle on high carbon steel. One thing that sets it apart from every Xuron pliers I have ever owned, it is very weak. I make chainmaille, weaving rings one at a time to create, so I use pliers for hours at a time, with this pliers I lose hold of rings, even soft materials like copper or aluminum are difficult to bend. I bought these so they would fit in tight parts that are difficult to reach but that doesn't matter because they are weak. If your looking for great pliers for chainmaille, Xuron long nose pliers have strength and performance. I also enjoy their tweesernose, combination tip, short nose, split ring and the cutter micro shear.

The Xuron 485FN Flat Nose Plier makes working with wire easier than ever. It's slender features make it easy to get in and 'hide' wire ends, manipulate the open/close of jump rings, and in working with finer gauges of wire. I do recommend this product.

These pliars are great. They have a good spring to them and the tips meet well. They're great for working with my jewelry chainmail. Only thing I would mention is for anyone not familiar with this brand. The handles are well covered, but they are not round. They're rounded, but flat, so it can put a lot of pressure on your palm when you use them for a long time. Just be aware.

These get into tight places and work with my sterling, niobium, and aluminum rings. Great pliers. I'm thinking of getting a second pair.
