I had heard good things about the Xuron products and was a little confused by earlier comments. So I did my research before buying. They are SUPPOSED to be offset. It is not a defect. The by-pass blades shear the wire instead of compressing it as most cutters do. That is why this cutter leaves such a clean end on your wire…but only on the one side of the cut. The wire end on the "inside" of the cutter is not flush, but he cut on the "back" is VERY flush. I almost never have to use my end rounder any more. My friend has had one for years. They come with a lifetime guarantee providing you do not misuse them. The Xuron website recommends max cut of 14 AWG (1.6mm). Also, you should avoid cutting heavy gauge wire at the tip. Their website explains the “patented Micro-Shear® cutting action” and has all the specs if you need them. I love mine.

First thing I would like to point out, these cutters are intentionally designed with the cutting blades offset by 0.1 millimeters. The blades cut by using mechanical shearing, that is, the blades slide past each other as opposed to pinching together as you would find in most typical cutters. This design significantly reduces the effort needed to cut material and creates a flat cut, as opposed to a tapered cut as you would get with most typical cutters. So, if you were reading the other reviews and worried about the blades "not being flush", you can rest assured that this is actually a design feature, a very good one at that!

Other features I enjoy:
- Wide rubber handles make grasping easy and secure
- Black finish reduces glare from lights
- Flat spring provides constant tension, so that the cutters open without sticking
- Spring tension is just enough, so you can use these for hours without fatigue
- Heat treated so the blades stay sharp
- Tight tolerances so the cutters never exhibit "wiggle"
- Wide cutting range, 14 to 30 AWG wire

In conclusion, these are some of the best shear cutters I have ever used. Highly recommended.

I began my jewelry making adventure with inexpensive cutters, not wanting to invest a lot of money till I decided this was a hobby I wished to pursue with quality components. This flush cutter snips wire smoothly and quickly without compressing the cut wire end and leaving impossible sharp points. I will be purchasing other items from this line of jewelry tools.

These flush cutters are perfect for electronics. I use them to trim component leads during PCB assembly and I can't imagine a better tool for the task. The tip easily fits into tight areas and is able to trims the leads flush with the board without marring traces or the solder mask. Highly recommended.

One word, GREAT!.
Nicely and professionally designed tools with the cutting edge. Expensive, but for a quality tool like this, I don't think twice to spend the extra buck. After all a good engineer needs a good tool and finally, it is made in America, so it speaks for itself.

This is an excellent tool for fine, flush cutting of soft wire or thin metal such as photo-etch. I recommend it for scale modelers and work with delicate electronics. I'm delighted with mine.
