After 3 minutes of chewing, the gum starts to turn into something sort of like chewed paper, except gritty.

As bad as the gum is, I also tried the Xyla mints and find them to be wonderful.

Normally, I rely heavily on amazon reviews, but for once, I'm glad I ignored them. I can't stand the taste of aspartame, so I was looking for some gum with a different sweetener. I was initially looking for something with sucralose, but stumbled onto this gum and decided to give it a try. And I'm very glad I did. I've only tried the spearmint flavor so far, but it tastes great and doesn't have the obviously artificial flavor that I've come to expect. The pieces are a tad smaller than I prefer in a gum, but are typical for the chiclet-style gum these days.

I also did my own research and found that contrary to the other review, this gum is indeed made in the US. I buy plenty of stuff made in China, but I do get squeamish if it's something I'm going to be eating. And as opposed to the other reviewer, I got to purchase directly from amazon, so I didn't have to worry about dealing with a third-party seller if I needed to return the product.

This company used to be named Emerald Forest, and was either bought out or merged into a new company (I believe Xylitol USA). I had purchased gum on several occasions in the past when it was Emerald Forest, and there were no artificial ingredients in the product. The ingredient listing given on Amazon when ordering this time was not the same as when receiving the gum (there is a disclaimer saying there could be a difference). I know there is no perfection, but I try to stay away from junk whenever possible. The spearmint gum contained artificial flavoring. It also contained titanium dioxide for people concerned about that. They didn't seem to be upfront about those things, I won't be ordering this again.

I love the ideal of xylitol-sweetened gum instead of one with aspartame or whatnot. I've been using XyliChew for a long while, and love it.

I thought I'd try Xyla brand gum for a change, since I chew a lot of pieces during a day and it was slightly better priced than XyliChew. What a mistake!

For the first 2 minutes, this gum is great. Strong burst of spearmint flavor, nice consistency. I usually chew 2 pieces at a time because 1 is too small. After 2 minutes (literally, I am timing it right now as I write this), the flavor is mostly gone. I'm at 2.5 minutes chewing, and it's starting to taste pretty awful.

After 3 minutes of chewing, the gum starts to turn into something sort of like chewed paper, except gritty. By 4 minutes I can barely stand to keep chewing, and tiny gritty bits break off as the gum literally starts dissolving into a mush. At exactly 5 minutes I HAD to spit it out, as it started tasting weirdly chemical, was completely breaking apart into tiny gritty pieces, and made me gag.

Xyla sent some free mints and lollipops that are quite good, but I will be avoiding their gum (and trying to figure out someway to offload the rest of the gum I still have from them - but it would have to be to someone I don't like much!) I wouldn't even mind that much if the flavor just disappeared after 3-5 minutes, but this gum turns into something awful that leaves a terrible after-taste. Which is exactly the opposite of what I want when I chew mint gum!

I bought this gum about three weeks ago and have never been more disappointed in a product. When you first chew up the pieces the taste is anything but spearmint. But it gets worse as you continue to chew it; what flavor there is disappears in less than 2-3 minutes and it is just plain nasty!

As bad as the gum is, I also tried the Xyla mints and find them to be wonderful. The flavors I like most are: Wintergreen, Coco mint, Peppermint. Licorice mint is also pretty good.

I got hooked on Xylitol gum in Thailand, and no US manufacturer that I know can do it as well. This gum does not distinguish itself in terms of flavor, but the duration of the flavor is really disappointing. A typical chicklet lasts two or maybe three minutes before losing all flavor, and after 10 minutes, it becomes hard and rubbery. Would not recommend.

I have been looking for aspartame-free gum for some time until I found Xyla Gum. Flavor is fine, fresh and peppery, though I don't think it tastes like spearmint at all. My biggest issue with this gum is that it decomposes if you stop chewing because, say, you are talking to someone. I end up finding pieces of gum between my molars when I talk to friends, yuck! I will try to find other xylytol gum after I am done with the 12 packs.

Have to say I agree that the taste doesn't last long. What I find I like is it settles my heartburn quickly. Found out quite by accident. So grateful

Great flavor from the get-go, but unlike other gums It literally disintegrates in your mouth. Instead of getting tough like some other gums after chewing for a while. The gum gets really bitter and turns into an awkward unmanageable goo in your mouth.

Advice: Chew it to freshen up your breath and for the oral health benefits of xylitol, but as soon as it starts to get soft in your mouth when you'd expect it to get tough/more chewy, spit it out.
