Product Description

Updated with a fresh look for 2011, Creatopia is the one crafting machine that allows you to rotary cut, die cut, stick, emboss and laminate all your creative projects. This main unit comes with the adjustable roller assembly and a 25 foot roll of Xyron acid-free, non-toxic, permanent adhesive. Additional drop-in cartridges are easy to change in and out and allow you to switch between permanent adhesive, repostionable adhesive, fabric adhesive or double lamination. The unique roller assembly makes it easy to apply edge-to-edge adhesive to items up to half an inch thick! It's just as easy to change the function of your machine with other simple, drop-in or slide in components. Just remove the roller assembly and adhesive cartridge and drop in a full embossing cartridge to create a full page of pattern up to 12-inches wide. You can also put in the border emboss assembly (3504-30-00), and easily change the rollers to create beautiful continuous borders of your choosing. This feature is wonderful for scrapbooks, school projects or card making. Another quick change to the cutting module (3503-30-00) and you can rotary cut with up to six blades at a time. Create strips of paper as long as you would like with this feature, or trim your paper to size. Creatopia can also work as your die cutting machine by sliding the Shapez die press (3506-30-00) into the main unit. The die press will work with the Creatopia dies by Spellbinders as well as dies from other popular manufacturers. With all the possibilities, Creatopia will help you create your world!

With the exception of the 9" model I own every Xyron machine they make. The smaller models are mainly for adhesive (though some offer the option of magnetic material or laminating) and they are one of my most used crafting items. That said I went into using the Creatopia with a clear understanding of it's features, and was lucky enough to receive with mine many of the optional accessories (came bundled as a Starter kit and included the permanent adhesive, a hearts patternz component, a borderz component with floral and starts patterns, and a cutz component with straight & scallop blades).

My number one favorite use for this machine (and all of the xyron models) is with the permanent adhesive. If you do any work with glitter you need these machines, they put a perfect even coating of adhesive down on your project making coating it with glitter a breeze. Try it on acetate (aka clear report covers) and you'll be smiling for days. Of course the adhesive also works great to actually stick things together and even your smallest embellishments will come out perfectly.

I will openly admit that I don't use the other features very often, I love the ability to emboss an entire 12x12 sheet of paper (or anything larger then my normally used a2 size embossing folders) however they currently have a very limited number of designs available and they are pretty expensive so with the exception of the dots patternz which I think I would utilize enough to justify the cost I won't be using that feature. The borderz component faces a similar problem for me, just to expensive and not enough options... maybe if I was more into scrapbooking and not just cardmaking.

Let's discuss the cutz component.

Pros:

-The 12 inch wide embossing rollers are great. They do a whole 12 by 12 page evenly and looks great for a page layout.

-The 3 inch wide embossing is also good. They would be perfect for doing pages or cards.

Cons:

-The patternz that have the 3 inch wide borders are difficult to remove and replace on the rollers. They sometimes come off very hard and are not the easiest to put back on.

-The unit itself is very large.

-The cutting system is a little tricky to setup. You need to put the paper in just right or you don't get a straight line.

-If you already have Sizzix or Cuttlebug die machine the Shapez attachment is pointless to buy.

-The refills for the adhesive and laminate are a little pricey but most of the refills for such products are.

-Also the different patterns are extremely overpriced I think at $25 for the 12 inch embossing rollers and $8 for the 3 inch. That seems a bit high to me.

This can be a useful machine if you have a large area in which you can keep it and can throw the money at it for the accessories and materials. There is nothing like it for embossing a full 12x12 sheet of paper but the rest of it is able to be done with other smaller and less expensive scrapbooking tools.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
Since I got this machine through vine, there were other components include to fully utilize the machine and be able to review it to the most. In addition to the machine and the permanent adhesive cartridge, I received Cutz component with straight, and two curvy blades, Borderz component with two different patterns, and Patternz component. I went ahead and bought at my local chain craft store: laminating Protectz cartridge, and another set of blades for the Cutz - card kit with scoring and perforating blades. This review will be about the machine and all the above, too.
Before the machine even arrived, I watched some amazon and youtube videos on how to use it and what it can be used for. Just search for creatopia, and there will be plenty.
When machine arrived, it was quite easy to set up. The machine itself without any cartridges is quite bulky, but very lightweight. Cartridges do add to the weight and they are big, too, so plan ahead for storage.
The machine has 12 and a half inch bed where you put your paper or other materials, and then you can work from there. The adhesive cartridge and laminating cartridge both say they are 12 inches wide, but in reality they are about quarter inch wider to accommodate 12 inch wide paper. Keep this in mind when arranging many smaller pieces to apply adhesive or laminate - do not go over 12 inch mark on the bed, or you get an edge that didn't receive glue. That is what I did the first time. Aside from that, both the adhesive and the laminate work great, apply very even, no air trapped or anything like that, the end result looks perfect and very professional.
Cutz component - there you need to insert roller cartridge to help advance the paper and blade cartridge at the exact place you want to be cut, and lock both of them into place.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
The Creatopia came in SOOO handy this past Christmas to make cool cards and gift tags and wrapping goodies. As a long-time Xyron fan, I've had the pleasure of using their products in the past -- from the "industrial" 24" wide adhesive/laminating version, to the little 2.5"-inch sticker maker. Being very sensitive to chemical fumes, they have made my job and hobbies much easier on the lungs.

The Creatopia takes it a step further. Not only can it make stickers and laminate, but it can also die cut, edge trim, and EMBOSS! (Can you tell I love that it can emboss?)

So far, I have been impressed with most of its features. Instead of gushing about all its awesomeness, though, I wanted to review the things I wasn't too keen about. No major complaints, just stuff that added up enough to take one star away from my rating.

1. Feels a little flimsy. Now, it's a decently hefty machine, and the sticker and lamination insert is heavy-duty. But overall, the machine is plastic, which makes it feel a little cheap. My biggest qualm is the handle. I feel like the crank could snap off if I'm not careful.

2. Edge trimming is meh. They call it "Cutz." The blade attachments aren't rock solid and I felt like I could cut myself trying to put them on. Once in place, it seemed like a lot of work to have to crank something to make a decorative edge. I prefer hand scissors.

3. Not many pattern options. I would love to see more die cuts, embossing patterns (both Patternz and Borderz), and cut edges than the selection currently available. And the few are available aren't all included so additional purchases are required.

OVERALL (the good stuff lumped into a summary): Love the idea, and it makes crafting very fun and convenient.
