True to form of the Y3K discs this new series from Tayo is equally wonderful. Tayo does an excellant job of keeping the disc fresh with darker breaks and contrasting those tracks with tunes of more energy. This disc gives an excellant glimpse of the nu-skool scene. Now if America can get on the nu-skool bandwagon. Personal favs are PMT Gyromancer and Stanton Warriors track Da Antidote. I look forward to another disc from this series. Top Notch!!

actually 3,5 stars. this one of the releases that keeps up the same pace throughout whole cd. nevertheless, the tracks are good and so is the mixing.

The British label Distinctive Breaks cranks out yet another chapter of future breakbeat with Y4K, number three of four and climbing. Tayos mix focuses solely on the nu-school breaks and house hybrids, and quite exhaustively gathers the big names of the moment.

Meaning Bushwacka appears, his rub of Sueno Latino wrapping the Spanish snippet to a crisp beat over a slow-bpm simmer, while Aquasky and Adam Freeland bury the needle with a seriously dangerous b-line on Bodyshock. Buzz-meisters Stanton Warriors heartily polish up classic electro with their intricate drum snatches in Da Antidote.

Unfortunately, the artists selected by Tayo seem fascinated with brow-furrowed serious tunes. Work by Blim, Rennie Pilgrem, and Meat Katie refuses to have any fun, blunting your excitement as well. By the time Matrix-sampling Red Pill from Scratch D vs H-Bomb makes an appearance, you probably wont be that interested to see where the rabbit hole really goes.

This came as no surprise considering the sucess of the Y_k series. Dj Layo does a supurb job at mixing the current stars in this genra together for this third instalment of breakbeat elite. No weak tracks here, however the mix's energy level could have been improved if there were a couple more vocal tracks like the first kicker. Would have liked a second disk to round up the set a little better. Overall good work. Bushwaka is said be the next DJ we'll see come down avenue Y_k.
