Product Description

Amazon.com

Start 'em learning to ride at an early age with the pink YBike Extreme balance bike. A more versatile, slightly larger version of the original YBike, the YBike Extreme is designed and engineered to help your child build the skills, balance, and coordination necessary to ride a big-kid bicycle. The YBike Extreme is outfitted with an all-aluminum, corrosion-resistant frame, with a injection-molded structure that eliminates weak points and offers more design freedom, hence the sleek curves and smooth, superior finish. At the same time, the bike's safety-oriented design will help your kid learn the basics of riding without risking injury. The front wheel is considerably farther forward than on most children's bikes, creating a bigger turning circle. This makes it less likely that kids will fall over the front when turning. The YBike Extreme's high-clearance body and large wheels, meanwhile, let kids ride safely on almost any terrain, including pavement, grass, or even sand.

Kids who tested the YBike Extreme for 20 to 30 minutes twice a week showed substantial improvements in both static and dynamic balance and bilateral coordination. Children as young as 1.5 years also showed observable improvements in physical self-confidence. So sit back, relax, and watch your little ones develop their bike-riding skills with the YBike Extreme. The product--which supports 220 pounds on a smooth, flat surface and 120 pounds on a rough surface--measures 33 by 17 by 9.5 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 7 pounds.

2.0 out of 5 stars No seat height adjustment -- it's a major drawback. September 10, 2012
By SSK
My child is 4 years old, about 50 percentile in height, and she found the seat level too low. She could not glide at all as a result. The problem is there is no way to raise the seat. I called the company and the representative said, "we sell a lot of these and no one ever called about that issue, so I don't know what to tell you." Most likely I have to get yoga mats and cut that out to add height to the current seat. I had bought a glider for my older daughter, and that product allows for seat height adjustment. My personal opinion is the glider is better designed. Something to consider when looking at these products.

Also, look around for better prices. I bought from another online retailer for $15 less that what is listed here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Learn to ride a bike in a few hours September 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
My two girls, age 7 and 9, played on the YBIKE Extreme for a few hours inside the house. They are too big for it - but that didn't matter. I took their training wheels off their bikes and they could ride the same day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Probably won't last me too long.....update 10-2-10 September 27, 2010
Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
Update 10-2-10: I just wanted to note that this leaves a bit of a black mark on our would floors, and it is pretty tough to remove. Of course, this isn't really meant for indoor use. LOL. My daughter still loves it!

Ok, let me explain....My daughter has been afraid to try her bike, even with training wheels....so, I get this, put it together in about 10 minutes and my daughter instantly gets on and starts riding it around the house....so, I suspect she will be on her bike a lot sooner....and WITHOUT training wheels. It's actually pretty amazing, and I would not have believed it if I hadn't seen it, but I do think my daughter will be riding quickly. In about half an hour she was moving and balancing pretty well. I think that using your feet to balance is actually better than training wheels....at least watching my daughter, it seems better, because I think she can catch herself if her balance starts to falter, and she is not relying on the training wheels. This really should have 4.5 stars, but I did take off half a star for two reasons. First, the directions were not that great and very small. But the real problem is that in the Amazon listing it makes it seem that it can take at least 120 lbs., however, on the frame it says the weight limit is 44lbs! That's a huge difference. I don't know which to believe. The forks are a plastic or nylon type, and perhaps that is the weak link??? This bike is REALLY light, and I think that also helps the rider keep control. The welds are pretty clean and nice, but now that I think of it, the seat is probably the weakest link, as it cantilevers off the frame. The seat is a hard plastic, and doesn't seem very comfortable, however, my daughter has not complained. The tires are cool looking and while at first I thought they were hard plastic, they are actually rubber, and grip well. I don't know how well they would do on a wet surface, but they look like they would do great in dirt....you know, I went back and pushed it to 5 stars. I thought I should round it up. Watching my daughter as I am writing this review, she is doing so well, I think it is really great. She has picked it up very quickly and easily. I wish I would have known, I would have gotten her one of these years ago!!!
