5.0 out of 5 stars Finally Continental without cramps
I am a visual learner and I have purchased several books trying to master continental knitting, I have even checked out the videos on Youtube. I have been knitting English style for more years than I care to admit. Finally with this book I am knitting continental and gaining speed. 3.0 out of 5 stars for the VERY beginner
This is a good book for the VERY beginner interested in continental style knitting (holding yarn in the left hand). It has good directions and pictures for casting on, knitting, purlling, and binding off. It does not include more advanced techniques like knitting in the round or cables. Good info on reading patterns. The projects are simple shapes like scarves. Good...

I am a visual learner and I have purchased several books trying to master continental knitting, I have even checked out the videos on Youtube. I have been knitting English style for more years than I care to admit. Finally with this book I am knitting continental and gaining speed. The illustrations are very easy to understand and the way the book is set up you can practice one technique before you attempt to try another. The book is spiral bound so it lays flat allowing you to compare the hand positions in the book to your own. I recommend this book to anyone attempting to learn continental knitting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Continental Knitting Made Easy!, May 22, 2009

YNotKnit had me knitting and purling continental style in no time. Literally less than a week from starting this book I was making a cabled scarf. I had never knit before but the instructions were broken down into so many very clear, small steps that it was like having someone sitting there beside me teaching me!

If you are interested in learning continental style knitting (and who shouldn't be!) then I would highly suggest getting this book ASAP.

1.0 out of 5 stars Really wanted this to be the book, March 8, 2007
This review is from: YNotKnit (Spiral-bound)
I really wanted this to be the book for which I was searching, so that I could finally learn to knit. As a self-taught crocheter, many knitters had told me to try Continental knitting since I am used to working with the yarn in my left hand.

What I found is that the illustrations are very confusing. Both as an artist and as an avid reader and researcher and crafter, most illustrations of yarn stitches keep whichever strand of yarn is originally shaded, shaded throughout the entire stitch process so that one can easily figure out what is happening with the individual strands. It seems that these illustrations change which strand is shaded, and offered me absolutely no help in figuring out how to knit. I found this book to be very confusing. I had to go out and purchase Leisure Arts I Can't Believe I'm Knitting, which had wonderful illustrations, clear enough so that I was, indeed, able to teach myself to knit continental style.

Evidently, there are many who can understand this book, and learn to knit from it. I wish I could have, saving myself the expense of buying a second book. I think their intent was great, but for me, the execution was lacking to the point that I received absolutely nothing of value from this book. I wish it were otherwise. I wish I could have looked at a copy in a store, as I would have known immediately that these illustrations were not something which I could follow.

Knitting rocks, and I **AM** glad I was able to learn. If you are absolutely new to knitting, and want to learn continental style, which is a FABULOUS way to knit, save some money and go buy the Lesiure Arts book, I Can't Believe I'm Knitting! For about $8 or $9, it will CLEARLY teach you how to knit EITHER/BOTH ways of knitting!! I can't recommend YNOTKNIT, but I highly recommend I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M KNITTING.

Pay no attention to "Whimsy"

This wonderful little book is completely clear, concise, and is exactly what it claims to be.

Clear drawings, clear written descriptions, helpful tips and hints.

Best I've seen and definitely recommend.

This book is very detailed and a wonderful help for those learning to knit. I have loaned it to a friend switching from crochet to knit, and she is very grateful for the book. It's so explicit and careful in its instructions. Thank you for selling it so I could buy it so I could loan it to my friend. :-)
