5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Yoga Training Book December 12, 2012

I have always been a stickler for good health. After reading this book, I now know that I know very little about good health and keeping the body and soul functioning optimally.

The book is very good even though you are just discovering Yoga for the first time, it will take you from the basics to the advanced stages of Yoga, it's also packed with good advice on how to practice yoga without risks. Anybody can apply the skills mentioned in this book to a success, you don't need to be an athlete for the book to work for you but it will give you that athletic body and look that we all crave.

Best of all, its illustrated, the best way I learn.

What a wonderful resource! I have been struggling with back pain and shoulder pain since I was 15 years old, and always searching for natural ways to relieve the pain. Especially for someone who works all day at a computer, this pain can be a constant nuisance. This yoga book is great for people who want something they can do on their own time. The poses are explained in very easy to follow language, and there are very clear pictures that illustrate each move. It tells you how long the exercise will take, and the exact benefits you can look to receive from using the specific exercises. The book is divided into the areas of the body in which you are experiencing problems or pain, so you can go right to the sections you need very quickly. It's well-written and easy to follow. Simply put, love it!

I can't believe this reduced my neck pain to almost nothing after trying in only one time! I have used the book 3 times and each time it reduces my 7/10 neck pain to 1/10. I have taken yoga in the past so the pictures and descriptions of the poses make sense. It also explained WHY my neck is hurting in a way that I could understand. GREAT BOOK, and worth a try if you have neck or back pain

This book presents a very informative guide for those looking to use yoga for various health related issues concerning acute or chronic body pain. The author spared no expense to explain how both strain and stress over long periods of time can cause various types of pain in the body.

What I like most about the book is how much detail the author goes into in describing the various yoga poses and their specific health benefits. Each yoga pose is fully illustrated with a picture that shows how to correctly get into the yoga position. Each position is broken down into the procedure for correct usage, the duration to hold the position, the multiple health benefits of the position, and a short note on when a particular yoga position should be avoided as to avoid other injuries.

The other thing that I think was a hit with me was how the author focuses more on the immediate health benefits for physical ailments instead of going into detail about the spiritual of "hokey" side of yoga. Where yoga may provide some spiritual benefits for some, there are those of us who prefer to use it mainly for its physical and mental health benefits.

In short, this is an excellent resource for beginners to yoga or those looking for a relaxing way to deal with acute or chronic body pain. It's packed with practical, easy-to-use information and can be referred to as a manual whenever you need to use a particular yoga position to ease physical pain.

5.0 out of 5 stars More than just a list of yoga poses December 16, 2012

When I purchased this book, I was expecting a quick intro and a list of yoga poses, but I got much more. The author goes into depth, explaining sources of pain, types of pain, and even suggests some non-yoga remedies. Don't worry, there are plenty of poses. Each one is illustrated, describes how to perform the pose and explains why it helps and the areas that it affects. If you are suffering from pain and pills don't help, this book will give you several good alternatives that may just make you feel better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very useful, also for those who are not into yoga December 12, 2012

Honestly, I never thought Yoga was really for me. But as I am suffering from chronic pain in my neck and joints I decided to give it a go and bought this book.

It's an amazing read. Quick and crystal clear, even for a total yoga layman such as myself. The texts are accompanied by simple and effective illustrations, so you can get started in no time.

What's particularly interesting is that the book also covers the kinds of pain one can suffer from. This way, you really get a good image of what it is you may be suffering from. The book doesn't serve as a quick-fix bandaid that you use to cover up a wound, without really understanding the problem.

The exercises are easy to understand and thanks to the clear descriptions in word and picture, very easy to execute. Definitely recommended for everyone who wants to try a new method to get rid of those little aches and pains.

5.0 out of 5 stars Back pain be gone! February 1, 2013

Very helpful! Reading and actually using this book has been very helpful to me. I'm relatively young but I already suffer from back pain and neck pain. It seems that I have short tendons. Besides I spend long hours on the computer every day, and not always maintaining a good posture. I friend of mine recommended me to practice Yoga and so I did. I hardly knew anything about Yoga or its poses, so this book has been very helpful to me. I've been doing Yoga for a while now and I have to say that it's making me feel much better, and I just practice 15 minutes a day.

This is a very comprehensive book on the topic. It contains many Yoga poses that anyone can do at home. Each pose is explained with great detail, containing its name, information about what it is good for, its benefits, the procedure, the recommended duration and repetitions, and an illustration to see how it should be executed. The author also explains different types of back pain and their common causes, and gives some tips and advice to prevent the pain to appear in the future or to alleviate it once it's there.

If you have back pain or neck pain, or if you work long hours in front of a computer like me, this book will be very useful to you. Recommended.
