Best $3 I've ever spent,
This review is from: YS-AUC: 2-in-1 Stereo Audio & miniUSB Multi-Adapter for Cingular 8525/8925, T-Mobile Wing/Dash, HTC TyTN (miniUSB and 3.5mm audio port)
I bought this item for my G1 not knowing whether it would work or not. Well, it works better than I could have imagined. The sound clarity is amazing. I use it in my car and it sounds better than my XM radio. The fact that you can listen to music without draining the battery makes long roadtrips all the more tolerable. This is the perfect addition to my G1 and I recommend it for anyone who wants to use headphones with theirs. Best $3 I've ever spent.

I bought this for my T-Mobile G1 with the goal of playing music in the car through an auxiliary stereo input while charging the phone. I am on the latest Android firmware (1.6) as of this review. This product does exactly what I want it to do (that is, plays music through the car stereo while allowing the battery to charge). Furthermore, if I have a Bluetooth hands free connected to the phone, the phone automatically pauses the music, rings, and allows me to complete the phone call with the Bluetooth device. Upon completion of the phone call the music continues through the auxiliary input on my vehicle stereo. As for my needs, this device works perfectly.

Do not buy this if you have an HTC myTouch or ADP2. It will short out your phone and cause it to reset. Seems to work with other phone. *update* After a while of toying around with this little adapter I found that it would not reset the phone as long as I had a usb cable plugged into it (whether it was running power to the device or just the cable alone). However, my battery life while this device was plugged in would often reduce down to less than 2 hours. In comparison, I've used the audio playback for 8-hour drives with the headset, losing only about 3/4 of the battery. The short in the device is actually between the audio ground and the USB. If just the audio is plugged in, this results in a short that resets the device. With a USB cable plugged in, the short doesn't cause enough trauma to reset the phone, but if the usb is plugged in and 'charging' the audio short drains power from the phone very quickly and the phone dies within 60-90 minutes even if it was at full-charge prior. When I don't use this adapter, my phone is 100% fine and maybe the short is just for my particular unit, but it would be more of a hassle to return it than to throw it away and get one with a better review.

Fits securely on Sprint Mogul phone. The adapter feels robust. There is enough room to attach external cables while the adapter is in place on the phone. Sound quality is good. It's nice to be able to charge the phone and listen to audio simultaneously.

I have a T-Mobile Dash phone, and wanted to both charge it and play audio while driving in the car. This multi-adapter allowed me to do both.
It's compact, sturdy, and snugly fits the USB port. The sound is crisp and clear, with no static. Shipping was quick, and the price was right. The device performs as advertised. I couldn't ask for more.

This is truly a neat little device. I often want to play music in my room over my T-Mobile G1, and it's a battle of charge versus play. I have to make sure that if I do play music, I'll have time afterwords to charge back up. Not the case anymore! I'm able to play music and charge my phone at the same time.
The adapter is very compact for what it does; it looks much bigger in the pictures than it actually is. It's about the size of a quarter, and a little longer width-wise. Sound quality is great; compared to the stock adapter that comes with the G1, I found that bass frequencies are carried much more better and with a little more "oompf". I found a lot more power for my system, and it works great. The build quality is what you would expect; plastic build with very solid adapter ports. I don't expect it to break at all. The phone charges at the same rate of speed as normal, even with playing music. The port that plugs into the phone is the proprietary port that the G1 has, and the "out" USB port is your typical mini-USB port. Overall, it's a great product, and a must have for all G1 users!

Works Great with G1.,

I love this since you can charge and listen to music at the same time. I just wish I ordered more than 1. The price is good and could have saved on shipping had I ordered more. You need one for the car and another for any other audio system you have. This way I would not have to carry my only one around.
Price was perfect and shipping was fast.

I just received the adapter plugged it into my G1 plugged it in to charge it started charging then plugged in headphones and they started to play. I did not have to download anything. Not happy about having to use an adapter but that is the fault of the phone not this product. So if you have a G1 phone this is a must have item for the price.

It does what it says it does- allows you to plug in a charger and headphones at the same time.
The only negative that I experience with my T-Mobile G1/HTC Dream is when it's connected the phone assumes it'll be getting audio input through the accessory jack also. As there is no mic connection, this is a non-starter, so when I'm using this accessory I need to unplug it before I can talk on the phone. I've pressed "answer" a couple of times forgetting that fact and am presented with, "hello? hello?"

This is actually the 3rd one I've owned (I've lost the previous 2, they worked up until I misplaced them). These things are fantastic. I use it primarily for my car, where I can charge and listen to music at the same time. It also comes in handy when using the Navigation feature on google maps - it'll pipe the audio over my speakers and keep the phone charged (gps kills the batter on my G1).
My only complaint is the orientation of the usb hole. My charger plug is bent, like an elbow. When both the charger and 3.5mm are plugged in the elbow bends into the audio jack, making things a bit difficult to get in. It's not impossible, more annoying. No idea if the orientation of my charger is standard though, so it's not a real complaint. Overall excellent product, can't beat the price, good enough to pick up 3. |
