This review is from: YTHX9321R5003 HONEYWELL HD COLOR SYSTEM KIT PRESTIGE HD SYSTEM REDLINK ENABLED INCLUDES THE PORTABLE COMFORT CONTROL (REMOTE) + WIRELESS OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND HIGH DEFINITION COLOR (Misc.)
This unit by Honeywell is the best looking unit I have ever seen, its HD display is second to none and the LCD remote is great with a touch screen display that has a cool white appearance that's not hard on the eyes if using late at night for a quick temperature change, its easy to understand and use. The kit also comes with an outdoor sensor that will send temperature and humidity readings to the thermostat and the remote. It has a whole host of settings that can be fine tuned to your liking such as a reminder to change you filter, or your batteries on your sensor are low amongst a list of other things. Remember if you install it your self the installers code is the manufactures date on the unit, this can be found on the back panel, (month and year ex. 0908). Many reviewers and sellers may say to have it installed by a professional, but that is not necessary with basic knowledge and a few tools. If your current thermostat runs on batteries, remove it and look at the small wiring cable with several wires in it and locate the wire that can supply power to the unit from your furnace (red), one of the unused terminals more than likely is hot power terminal on your furnace, secure that wire (red) to that hot terminal to supply constant power to your Honywell HD Thermostat, after connect the remaining wires. You can run two of these as I do, the only catch that I have found it that its best to use two remotes rather than one for both, the ability to adjust the temperature at the thermostat, or the remote will not be utilized by using only one remote. You can toggle between the two thermostats but can only adjust the temperature where the thermostat is located, so if your unit is in the hallway it will adjust the temperature there and not in your bedroom where you may be for the rest of the night. Using two remotes solves this by allowing you to select the remotes location or the thermostats location for temperature adjustment , that way one remote can stay downstairs and the other upstairs. The Tru-Steam addition is a great feature that I have yet to try but soon will. Your guests and family will be amazed by the nice looking display and handy remote, once you get over dropping 4 to 8 hundred dollars for one or two units, you will be pleased with the ease of use this product offers. Overall a great product from Honeywell that will not let you down, and is a great addition to your homes decor.

UPDATE : ( 8/7/2011) A recent review stated that the remote will not display the humidity level outside from the sensor, that is false. When looking at the remote all one needs to do is press the small box that displays the outdoor temperature and it will toggle between the two readings, perhaps the person that posted that information should remove their review due to it being false. Overall a great product from Honeywell.

I live in a three-story townhouse, and it was always difficult to stay comfortable--one room was always warmer/cooler than another, and it was frustrating to always have to be setting my thermostat differently depending on which room of the house I was using at the time (e.g., sleeping in the bedroom vs working in the office vs watching TV in the living room). I started looking for thermostats that had portable sensors, and I came across the Honeywell Prestige. I also looked into network-controllable thermostats that would allow me to change settings remotely (e.g., on a phone or PC). I settled on this Honeywell because of the fact that the system can be set to run according to the temperature of the remote, rather than the main wall unit. (Though I would still really like to also be able to control the unit via a network.)

I am very happy with this thermostat. My bedroom was always cooler (with AC) or hotter (with heat) than the rest of the house, so it is good to keep the remote control by my bed so I can actually set the temperature I want my bedroom to be (and not worry about how hot/cold the rest of the house is when no one's using it). The remote is easy to use, and the outdoor temperature sensor is nice, although it doesn't actually do anything to the thermostat's settings. The color LCD screen is neat, and people are certainly impressed when they see it.

This product is actually designed for HVAC installers and NOT for the general public. You will need to know some basic info about your HVAC system to set it up properly. One note about installation: Like other reviewers mentioned, this unit requires a 24VAC connection to operate. Almost all HVAC units are capable of providing this, but it seems that most units aren't wired to provide that voltage through the thermostat wires. It is possible to DIY a 24VAC connection if you don't have one, but I only recommend doing that if (1) you own and can use a multimeter, (2) you have extra unused wires in the bundle that comes to your thermostat, and (3) you can read a wiring diagram. I DIYed it, finding the common wire terminal at the HVAC unit, testing with a multimeter to ensure that it is providing 24VAC (it will actually be around 25-26 at the unit), hooking an unused thermostat wire to that common terminal, and then testing at the thermostat. If you don't know how to do any of that, or you don't meet those three requirements, you should most definitely have this product professionally installed.

****** UPDATE ******

After a month of using this new system, I am an even bigger fan. Because I have a smart meter, I can track daily and hourly energy consumption in my townhouse. Having some fairly sophisticated statistical training, I ran an analysis of my energy usage before and after installation, controlling for the weather and the amount of time spent at home. I found that my average daily energy consumption decreased by 12-18% once I installed this thermostat. Those savings are most certainly due to the remote sensor that I keep next to my bed which prevents over-cooling at night. At my energy rates, this purchase should be paid off sometime this fall. This was a great investment.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST thermostat ever, February 24, 2010

I love this thermostat. It is easy to install and a breeze to program. Best of all, it keeps my house EXACTLY at the target temperature. My old one would fluctuate around the target, first being too hot, then too cold (even though I had the tolerance set to +/-1 degree). This thermostat seems to run the furnace in smaller spurts, instead of waiting for the temperature to drop and running for a long time, like my one old did.

The remote and outdoor sensor are nice features, and also easy to use.

I just wish I had purchased this along time ago. My house is much more comfortable now.

This review is from: YTHX9321R5003 HONEYWELL HD COLOR SYSTEM KIT PRESTIGE HD SYSTEM REDLINK ENABLED INCLUDES THE PORTABLE COMFORT CONTROL (REMOTE) + WIRELESS OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND HIGH DEFINITION COLOR (Misc.)
We got this unit after trying a small water cooler unit in the bedroom at night, and a fan. The water cooler was loud and humid, even with good air flow in our dry heat here in Salt Lake City, and the fan was a bit too much white noise at night! My husband strung an extra wire from the attic to the main AC/Heating unit, and installed this thermostat unit. We mostly block off the rest of the air vents in the house, and use the remote from the bedroom. The remote is the best part about this unit, because you can change the location of the temperature sensor from the middle of the house to the bedroom at night, and just cool the bedroom off to get to sleep. We figure this unit will pay for itself in 6 months or less, winter or summer, but especially summer here. We can burrow under the covers in winter, but it's hard to effectively escape the heat in the summer. Thanks Honeywell!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good t-stat RF sensing add ons horrible., December 15, 2010
This review is from: YTHX9321R5003 HONEYWELL HD COLOR SYSTEM KIT PRESTIGE HD SYSTEM REDLINK ENABLED INCLUDES THE PORTABLE COMFORT CONTROL (REMOTE) + WIRELESS OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND HIGH DEFINITION COLOR (Misc.)
I wanted to write about the Prestige HD thermostat with the RF sensing outside monitor for outside conditions, I purchased this combination about October of 2010 I read up on everything I could before dropping the $419.00 it was pricey but worth it I believe. Here is what I discovered, 1st and foremost this t-stat has to work off the transformer on the board in the system, you can not use this t-stat with a battery... That means running new t-stat wire that has 5 or more colored wires in the actual wire. Second thing the outside RF sensor has to be mounted in an area that does not physically get WET! If the outside RF sensor gets WET it will malfunction and you will get a YELLOW box on the bottom left of the t-stat when you push the t-stat box for information it will tell you that there has been a serious error with the sensor and to contact Honeywell. The first version of the outside RF sensors were revised because of this error message. If you buy the outside sensor it costs about $154.00, Honeywell will not replace the sensor, you have to have your HVAC Company or the supply house you bought the t-stat from do a 1 for 1 exchange, NO ONE will have the outside RF sensor it has to be ordered. Other than the 2 issues above the stat is really nice its usually accurate to 1 degree of the weather channel, I wrote this because of the issue I had, I am a certified HVAC repair person, and trying to talk to the Honeywell Contractor line is a joke. You will end up back at the Company where you purchased the stat at fro replacement. 1 other thing I might mention on the outside RF sensor and the Remote, ALWAYS use LITHIUM BATTERIES,if not you will chew up a set of AA batteries every 3 weeks I experimented with it. The outside RF sensor uses a lot of battery power! I did not get the inside remote as I figured it was foolish because I keep my home at 1 temp in the summer and 1 temp in the winter so I didn't feel it was warranted. So people use the above wisley when considering this t-stat, Its definitely cool to have but the above will give you an idea of the maintenance of it!...

I've had Honeywell programmable thermostats in the past and they've all been great once you got them programmed. This one tops them all. The best feature is that they have finally made a thermostat that is incredibly easy to program and a color display that adds to its readability. The remote allows me to set my temperature in whatever room I am using at the time. Even though I have a very good heating/air conditioning system, some rooms are cooler or warmer than my living room where the main thermostat is located. The remote takes care of that. I would recommend this system to anyone looking to upgrade and I would assume that the monochrome display is just as useful as the color display. The outdoor temperature/relative humidity display is sure helpful in the winter so you can dress right.

This review is from: YTHX9321R5003 HONEYWELL HD COLOR SYSTEM KIT PRESTIGE HD SYSTEM REDLINK ENABLED INCLUDES THE PORTABLE COMFORT CONTROL (REMOTE) + WIRELESS OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND HIGH DEFINITION COLOR (Misc.)
I purchased a different Honeywell kit - the same as this one, but does not include the remote control.

This was to replace an existing Honeywell t-stat, but the old one was so time-consuming and difficult to program, that I found myself not using the program feature - and just "HOLDing" a temperature (defeats the purpose of a programmable t-stat).

The Honeywell Prestige HD is a wonderfully-designed thermostat. The thermostat is wonderful and extremely easy to program. The touch screen is bright, responsive, and extremely user-frienly. Nothing ambiguous about the way this thermostat works. If you aren't sure if you can install it yourself - there are a few helpful youtube videos out there.

One feature I like is that if you decide to deviate from the scheduled program and "HOLD" a temperature, it will only hold it until the next temperature change in the program (unless you specify otherwise). Translation, it prevents your t-stat from being stuck on "HOLD" maximizing energy cost-savings. The outdoor sensor is simple and easy to install - and reports the temp and humidity level.

The wireless setup (for the outdoor sensor) is extremely easy to setup. I am planning on buying the Honeywell True Steam humidifier and taking full advantage of the wireless capability of this thermostat.

BE AWARED: This Honeywell product comes with No What-So-Ever customer support in case you have any issues, they won't provide you support until you hire a HVAC contractor!!!

I could give this product 4 stars. But I had very frustrating experience with Honeywell's customer service. that is the reason I give 1 star to this product.

I am not sure if all of you realize this: when you purchase a product, you also purchase the after sale customer service/support, For this product, the customer support at Honeywell is extremely ridiculous. I understand companies outsourcing their customer service overseas to reduce cost. but you can't hire such unexperienced/untrained people to provide NO service while still charge premuim price for your product.

Here is my story:
I got this item shipped yesterday and I installed it in 10 minutes. I did my home work ahead of time about wiring. it is pretty easy upgrading from my 8320 t-stat, just match the colors with letters.

During the testing, I paired the remote control and outdoor sensor with the t-stat. then I removed these two items from the t-stat's registration. now the remote control is still remember the t-stat but t-stat don't, what happens is that: whenever you turn on the remote control, it searches the t-stat and after few seconds it says: "no signal". there does not exist a hardware button on the remote control for initiate another registration, like the outdoor sensor has. I was stuck.
I called Honeywell customer support. these are people with strong India accent. they could not help me on that then finally they said. "Since this is a professional level thermostat, you got have it installed by a HVAV contractor. once you have a HVAC professional stand by you, you an call our contractor help line." I am like: What? I need to pay another hundreds of $ to hire a contractor? are you kidding me! this is definitely not a HVAC wiring issue, the t-stat works perfectly wth my HVAC A/C. it is the connection problem between the t-stat and the remote control.
I called them again, the next guy tried to help, but he could not. then he used the same execuse: You need to hire a HVAC contractor, since it is a professional product.

The next day, I solved the issue by reading the remote control's manual, it mentions there is a blank area on the remote control and you can press it for 3 seconds in case of errors.
I admit that I should have read the manual ahead of time. but how come the customer support staff don't even know that!!!! they are absolutely have not trained on this product and even have not read the manual on the product.

I might be lucky that I got a minor issue, but think about this: if you bought this product and stuck on anywhere. You basically on your own, and need to throw a couple of hundred dollars to hire a contractor before you can get their customer service.

So, be warned.

3.0 out of 5 stars No humidity sensor on the remote, July 27, 2010
This review is from: YTHX9321R5003 HONEYWELL HD COLOR SYSTEM KIT PRESTIGE HD SYSTEM REDLINK ENABLED INCLUDES THE PORTABLE COMFORT CONTROL (REMOTE) + WIRELESS OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND HIGH DEFINITION COLOR (Misc.)
You can buy thermostats for $20 - this one retails for $500, as such one would expect it to contain every feature imaginable, to be the pinnacle of all Honeywell has learnt about thermostats in the many years they have been in the business. And with one exception, that's what you get - this is a great unit. The exception is that the remote does not include a humidity sensor. This was a huge disappointment to me, as the thermostat includes very advanced humidity control (which BTW you can also get in the cheaper Honeywell 8321 but not in any other Honeywell thermostat). I had planned on leaving the remote in the most humid room in our vacation condo while we're not there, to ensure it doesn't get too humid. Unfortunately that's not possible - the remote will only monitor the temperature, not the humidity level. So the thermostat will only compensate for the humidity in the room where the thermostat is located, thereby negating the benefit of the remote, at least as far as humidity goes. It's weird, since even the outdoor sensor has a humidity sensor - why did they leave one out of the remote?

With that admittedly large reservation, this is an otherwise fantastic unit, it looks and works really well. If I had known that the remote was just a temperature sensor and not a temperature+humidity sensor, I probably would have kept looking for another unit that could do that, or bought something cheaper.

Update, May 2011: The limit of four settings per day (wake, leave, return sleep) is irking me more and more. Honeywell differentiates their thermostats based on how many days you can independently specify per week (this was has the maximum: 7), but that's not what I need, I need to be able to specify 5 or 6 settings per day, which this thermostat can't do. Specifically, I want to be able to drown out noise from neighbors at certain times using the AC fan.
