2.0 out of 5 stars Possibly the lulziest "Engrish" subtitles I've ever read, July 12, 2009

This review is from: YU-GI-OH ! TV Series:Part 1 - Episodes 1-32 (NTSC - All Region DVD's) (DVD)
I bought this ages ago, but I figured I'd drop in and review it now since I'm bored and altogether unsleepy. First off, I'm fairly sure this is a bootleg. Second off, either mine was a defect or this box set just sucks, because the "Kaiba vs. Pegasus" duel cuts out halfway through an episode and there's no trace of anything that happens after that point. Finally, if you're looking for a subtitled Japanese Yu-Gi-Oh experiece, look elsewhere, because these subtitles are both totally inconsistent in terms of quality and translation, and very consistently god-awful. English grammar is butchered, words wind up translated into English when they shouldn't be ("Kaiba Seto" comes out "Lion Seahorse," for example), monster names have been switched around in ways that I'm pretty sure resemble direct translations in the same way onions resemble pepperoni pizza, and it's nearly impossible to take anything seriously while reading them. This isn't worth buying unless you know the language and can enjoy the show without subtitles, but I wouldn't even advise wasting your money on it then.

Besides, to be honest, even the Japanese version of the anime is pretty average, in my humblest opinion.
