I purchased one to test before investing in the 4 that I needed. I hesitated due to the lower star reviews. I think the key to good performance is to check the wavelength of the camera to see if it matches the illuminator. My camera is a Color Sharp CCD SP301 which came with the Defender security DVR. The Defender manual states the IR wavelength for the camera to be 850nm. This is what is listed for the illuminator. The camera has built in LEDs which do not fill the camera FOV and so results in dark areas at the edges. When using the motion detection DVR at night, this is a problem. In the spring there are many bugs and cotton type seeds flying around. When they get close to the camera at night they are very bright against the dark edges of the frame. The high contrast sets off the motion detection and I end up with way too many false alarms. With the IR illuminator placed a couple feet in front of the camera, the small specks are not as much of a problem since the background is lit up.
The illuminator lights the whole FOV of the camera out to a wall at 30ft, which great for the price. YY Trade delivered quickly so I am happy with both the product and service.

This light is a total waste of money. It has a throw of about 2 feet absolute max, making it totally worthless as a complement to a closed circuit surveillance system. The 50 foot claim is a total lie. I wasn't even expecting 50 feet. I was hoping for about 10 feet.

It was connected to 12VDC and 1A as required and properly installed. Don't waste your money.

The light would not light up anything more than 1 foot way and it wasn't even clear then. Don't waste your money. I would return it but after paying for shipping and restock fee it isn't worth the effort. SAVE YOUR MONEY

This is a good basic IR light for indoor/outdoor use to supplement IR lighting already built into your night vision security camera. I used this at the far end of my driveway to get better invisible illumination. I tapped into the 12vdc power supply that feeds my security camera, so the lack of an included wall-wart was not an issue. The LEDs do have a subtle red glow on the face of the light due of their frequency, but truly invisible spectrum LEDS have less range and can cause problems with cheap security cameras.

My original review of this light, I trashed it as worthless, and I stated that it was worth less than it's box.. I bought it to use with a small fixed USB camera for a small room. Which it would not see the IR light beyond the end of my desk..

I also noted that the few IR LED's on an EasyN camera I own were better than the bundle in this light.. Until I tried the light and my Pan/Tilt EasyN camera together.. the small room was absolutely bathed in light from this lamp..

In short, if you are seeing the light red glow on the LED's.. you are getting a ton of light.. but if you are not seeing it on your camera, then your camera is not able to see the IR effectively.. not the IR itself..

The light's effectiveness has to do with the sensor type in your camera (for IR CMOS good, CCD Not so good). Do this trick before you buy. take any IR remote control and point it at your camera, you should see the IR LED on it blink when you push a button on the remote.. now in a dark room while monitoring your camera video, point the remote at a wall several feet away. If you see clearly flashing lights on that wall when you push a button on the remote, Buy this Light as your camera has the right video sensor for IR, if you don't see flashing lights, or you just barely see them, buy a different camera before you buy this light.

Really fills in the dark areas of my security camera views with wide angle lenses. Instead of a narrow spotlight in the center of the image, the entire frame is now lit and looks like B&W daylight.
I purchased some 2W power supplies and Y cables and run two of these illuminators for each camera I have. Some to get a really far away area lit, some to just get a wide field of view.
Definitely will be getting more of these.

This IR illuminator works well for the price. I actually hooked it up with a camera on my vehicle and now I have night vision on my car. I read some other reviews and manufacterer's notes that it only works with certain cameras. Works great with the ones I ordered. It's true to spec gives about 30 meters of night vision to the camera. Hooked up on my car it just looks like a fog light. Pretty awesome.

I bought this illuminator to light up my van parked outside from a second floor window apartment with a webcam filming it, which is about 20 feet in distance, since I had my van vandalized with key scratches. I was sold due to the young man's positive video review, and saw that it Lights up. I bought the power adapter from Radio Shack to the specifications of the illuminator. When I installed it, NO ILLUMINATION. Only infrared led's. Fine. I thought I'd keep it, just to deter vandals when they look up at my window. After one night, 3/4 of the infrared lights burned out. Then later that next night, NONE would light up. I know it was a inexpensive item, but I should have listened to the negative reviews. However, maybe other customers might have better luck with this item, perhaps mine was defective. I really did not want to spend more $$ to ship it back, because it would have costed more than the item was worth. Now it resides in the city dump. Sorry, but I'll go buy a similar item at my local hardware store. Thanks, but no.

I was very skeptical that an illuminator for under $10 would have any effect at all, but I am very happy to report these work very, very well. In fact, I just added 5 more to my cart. I will try to put up 2 pictures, before and after. Note: The after picture is with 2 of these units, each aimed about 30 degrees apart. The area in front of the light post is the area I was trying to light up. It's about 40' from where the illuminators are mounted. The driveway is about 30' wide. The bushes are about 50' from the illuminators and you can see the shadow they create from the light. For localized lighting for the price, they can't be beat.

This would be great in illuminating a small area. I wanted to illuminate a portion of my back yard, and a portion of my front yard. So I bought two. The one in the back yard almost looks like a small candle has been lit when it's on through the eyes of the camera. The one in the front was defective right out of the box. Overall, I'm not impressed. This is only meant to make a small area brighter, not a large area.
