Awesome CD,

Very tight ensemble, great technique, great arrangements. You can appreciate the technical proficiency of the group if you're a musician, or just the great tunes if you're not. Highly recommended.

Mind-boggling,

This review is from: Ya Gotta Try (Audio CD)
If you're into brass quintets you MUST purchase this album. If you just like easy-listening jazz then this album is still cool. The rendition of Caravan is mind-boggling. There is one note in there that will likely raise the hair on your arms. You'll know the note when you hear it. I believe there is a video out there of a concert performance. It's the kind of stuff I dream about doing someday. More likely I'll be in heaven by that time 8)The rest of the album is quite well done. JD Shaw has rather perspicacious arrangements and you'll hear something interesting even the 100th + time you listen to the album. One caveat, their web-site is kind of ... I don't want to say "weird" since that'd be too strong a sentiment, but you get the idea. Don't expect a reply. However, I can heartily recommend all their albums. Especially this album.
