5.0 out of 5 stars Visions of black eyed virgins will dance in your head!, July 21, 2004
This review is from: Ya Sahi Sabrou: Impressions of Syria (Audio CD)
This seminal album redefines Syrian music. From its haunting first track to its rousing finale this album virtually grabs you and says "dance or die you pig-like Zionist slave infidel!"

I found myself ululating along to the haunting ballad Fog el Nakhel and whirling like a dervish to the uptempo Waglat Hijaz. On the track entitled Yel Balek the insistent beat and shrill wail of the background vocals calls to mind Neil Young's early work mixed with Ravi Shankar on Qat.

By the end of this explosive masterpiece I wasn't sure whether I wanted blow something up, oppress some women or just cut my own damn head off with a rusty pocketknife.

It's that good.

Mr. Alrahman and Mr. Bouteldja, we who are about to rock salute you!
