This is my 1st Montoya CD but it won't the last. His guitar playing is honest, real and unsurpassed except by the real emotion and feelings in his lyrics. His gruff voice carries the sound of experience, of unrequited love from a man's view, of broken relationships and quarrels over nothing that cause the most pain. DOn't get me wrong. This CD isn't a tear-jerker or melancholy. It is filled with an optimism for the future and hope.
I wake to "Can't Get My Ass In Gear" every morning, then listen to the others while getting ready. Even his deep soulful songs sizzle with vitality and energy.
The title song is a hit by itself. After hearing some of his other releases, I think Coco is a terrific artist, singer and musician.

Coco Montoya is a artist that deserves much praise in my book. A former apprentice of Albert Collins, Coco has come into his own. Playing his own stellar guitar, singing with a passion that just doesn't come from practice, but experience. Coco's rough, gruff and raw vocals sting every track while white hot guitar riffs peel layer after layer of your soul apart.

From the fun, yet powerful "I can't get my A-- in gear" to the fun and punny (yes punny) Big Boy Pete, this is a great album not to be missed. Real true blue fans will rise to their feet at Coco's rendition of "Dyin' Flu" as well.

Stomp your feet, clap your hands and take a drink, because this blues man wants to play for you!

Coco Montoya used to play drums for Albert Collins. Albert taught Coco to play guitar and it was a case of the student exceeding his teacher. This is a good album. Coco's phrasing and singing rank him with some of the best. There are many great tracks and 'You'd Think I'd know better by now' also shows his song writing ability. I recommend this album. excellent album, coco montoya is a fabulous guitarist. I saw him at the Calif. Mid-state fair this summer (2010) and he was incredible! I decided to buy a couple of his albums and they are both great.

Recently I went to see Lee Roy Parnell in concert at a local club (Which was excellent by the way. Buy everything that Lee Roy has to offer!) 3/4 of the way through the show he brings up this guy by the name of Coco Montoya. He jammed with Lee Roy for 2-3 songs and sang one song himself and I became an instant fan! This guy can play and sing! He's a blues player who deserves to be nationally known! If you here he's playing near you somewhere...go see him!

From the first listen to this disc I was enthralled! It is great! Can't wait to see him live!
