This is Mecano's best!! No doubt,

The first time I heard "Ya viene el sol" was actually the first time I heard just anything from Mecano. I was [...], and was profundly inspired and moved by these incredible songs.
'No pintamos nada' is a great techno song, great sound considering we're talking about the early-eighties. One of the things I really love about this album is the loud drum-sound (check this song and 'Busca algo barato'), that usage of drum-sound is rare among pop artists and it sounds just great. 'Ya viene el sol' is one of the most original songs I have ever heard in my life. There's nothing that can compare to this. The lyrics are weird also (basically talking about basking in the sun). 'La estacion' always make me feel nostalgic about my childhood. Very emotive track. 'Hawaii-bombay' is the most known track of the album, very beautiful musically. (I used to think Bombay was a paradise until somebody from India told me it's not like that). 'Mosquito'... well... I don't wanna talk about this one. 'Busca algo barato' again has that loud drum beat that makes the song so cool. 'Aire' is arguably Mecano's best song ever... the lyrics about being transformed in a wind stream and the things that happen after that is one of the crazyest non-weed stories I've ever heard. The music is incredible and so is Ana's voice. 'Me rio de Janeiro' is a somewhat comical track that I used to love when I was a kid and still I find very enjoyable. In spanish it is a word game about "laughing" at the city of Rio de Janeiro and it also means to "perform" a personal carnival by dressing flamboyantly. 'Japan' is a high-tech track, very accurate with a high-tech and extremely organized country as Japan. 'El mapa de tu corazón' is a beautiful ballad about letting go someone that you love. In conclusion, this is Mecano's best album, although their next albums are also great, they were never as cool, original and fresh as this one, that remains to be an icon of techno-pop music. montecarlostar

A Kid's Review

I honestly hated Mecano's music when I first heard it. However, when I heard Hawaii-Bombay and Aire, I really wanted to buy the CD. The whole album is wonderful. I love Mecano because of their creativity. All of the songs are different; that's why they don't bore me. This is a great relief to me from everything else on the radio.

This album was originally released in the EARLY eighties. Though there is nothing wrong with retro this particular album is not a great achievement for such a great band like Mecano. They definitely got better with time. I give it three stars instead of 0ne because of track 7 "Aire". That song alone is worth the dough.

MECANO ANTES DE "ENTRE EL CIELO Y EL SUELO",

YA SE NOTABA MUCHA MADUREZ RESPECTO A SUS DOS TRABAJOS ANTERIORES, YA JOSE MARIA CANO HABIA EMPEZADO A COLABORAR EN LAS LETRAS Y LA MUSICA, SE PALPABA EL CONTRASTE ENTRE JOSE MARIA E IGNACIO CANO, CON DOS ESTILOS TOTALMENTE DIFERENTES PERO QUE ANA TORROJA SUPO INTERPRETAR. CANCIONES COMO "HAWAII-BOMBAY", "BUSCO ALGO BARATO", "NO PINTAMOS NADA", Y "ME RIO DE JANEIRO" FUERON MUY SONADAS ESPECIALMENTE EN ESPANA. TODAVIA NO RECIBIAN UN GRAN RECONOCIMIENTO EN LATINOAMERICA.

This album could be considered one of the best from Mecano, as although the most well known tracks ('Hawaii Bombay' or 'Aire') are really weak and even a bit silly, there are gems in it and there's kind of a common concept in all the songs, about travelling and looking for a better place. The first song, 'No Pintamos Nada' is a techno-pop protest song about the threat of nuclear war and how we common people don't have anything to do with what leaders do. The third song, 'La Estación' is really emotional and intense, with a lot of references to travelling and childhood.
The weirdest song in the album is the only composition from lead singer Ana Torroja, a strange rap by a high-pitched voice with a crazy techno instrumentation, and a wonderful, melodic final section with a brilliant instrumental part. 'Busco Algo Barato' is interesting for its complex synth arrangements, catchy melody and haunting voice and vocals describing the atmosphere of a full cheap-selling supermarket. 'Me Rio de Janeiro' is silly and 'Aire' has a nice classic flavour but a little too sweet and predictable, although it's been really successful amongst youngest (female?) Spanish fans. The two closing songs are very different but superb. 'Japón' is a very accurate description of Japan as a highly technified and organized country where everything fits tight, even time. The atmosphere gets really claustrophobic with an overdose of synthesisers and other sounds and leads to the clean, delicious atmosphere of the sensitive ballad that closes the album, 'El Mapa de tu Corazón'. This represents a more than worthy closing to the album and insists on the concept of travelling. For both Spanish-speakers or not, the melodies of this album and the nice synthesiser arrangements, as well as the beauty of Ana's voice (more here than in other works from the band) assure a lovely listening to melodic pop lovers who like some instrumental sophistication as well.

Mi disco favorito de Mecano,
By
This review is from: Ya Viene El Sol (Reis) (Audio CD)
Por cierto, siempre he detestado 'Aire'.

Más de lo Mismo!,
This review is from: Ya Viene El Sol (Reis) (Audio CD)
VUELVAN A REUNIRSE YA y lanzen material NUEVO! El ambito musical NECESITA de artistas del calibre y con la incomparable calidad de MECANO! Los estamos esperando...! |
