One of the most gifted Dancehall DJ,

This review is from: Yaga Yaga (Audio CD)
Terror Fabulous is definetly one of the most Talented DJ to bless the Mic. This album is a demonstation of his versatility. A well put together blend of reality and rude boy songs. Terror gives us potent lyrical content on tracks like "Mr. Big Man" and "From Birth". To classic dancehall tracks like "Gangsta's Anthem" and "Number 2" and one of the first original dancehall songs to gain international popularity "Action" which he did with Nadine Sutherland. For those who say that Buju Banton dejayed on that track; ask yourself this question, Why would Buju Banton do a big song like that and let another DJ take credit for it?Sean Paul "Gimme Di Light" was not the first dancehall song to become a hit, Terror Fabulous run di place wid "Action" back in the early 90s. This ablum could have done as well as Sean Paul's Dutty Rock album, had it gotten the same promotional support. Terror Fabulous is one of the best Dancehall DJ ever. This album is a classic, and a must have for any Reggae and Dancehall fan.

Yaga Yaga, Reggae fans here are some great Jams to take to a party.Example Bismark N.D.house party not knowing anyone loved reggae tunes when having a few. I was feelin pretty IRIE so I went out side to the car to get Terror Fabulous, I took the CD inside to see if they would jam it for me and I said maby you guys might like it. Guss what? they loved it they played it all night till I left they wanted me to stay longer cause I had the jams. I'm really glad I bought this album. So if you don't have this I would recomend it, just think of all the parties you'll go to or have. I do give this 5 stars. Still Jammin @ khjc.

Before Shaggy, before Sean Paul...bigger in his time than Beenie, Buju, Cobra, or even Shabba...there was Terror Fabulous, and with this album (particularly with the lead single "Action") this lyrical genius did more to bring dancehall to an American audience than virtually any other deejay before or since."Action" was ubiquitous in the early 90s. Radio stations that would never dream of playing dancehall under normal circumstances were blasting Nadine and Terror's mega-hit, and as such, the throbbing rhythms and clever toasting of dancehall gained access to the American popular consciousness. Hip hop, rock, and r&b heads who couldn't understand a word of the lingua were asking me to translate the song for them verse by verse. People who used to mock Jamaican patois and question whether or not Cobra and Shabba were "even speaking English" were suddenly enamoured with the culture and the music. And diehard dancehall heads were not immune to the single's charm. To this day, I can play "Action" 20 times back to back without tiring of it. And I still think the Pepper Seed riddim was the greatest riddim ever created. Dave Kelly's masterpiece, eclipsing even Bad Gyal and Fiesta. But there is more to this album than the lead single. The other cuts here are far from filler. This is one of those rare gems that you can let play from start to finish without wanting to fast-forward through a single track! "Number Two" - Is a clever give and take with singers Brian and Tony Gold in which Terror expresses his incredulity at male homosexuality when women are so unfathomably gorgeous. "Gangster's Anthem" - Is utterly beautiful. Most gangster songs are either rough, in emulation of the grit of the gunman, or mournful, in recognition of the death sentence he'll surely face. Gangster's anthem is ethereal, almost melodic. The juxtaposition of the subject matter and the music is simply enthralling. "Miss Goody Goody" and "Water Bed Expert" (the former featuring guest vocals by Maxi Priest) are the kind of fun, bouncy tunes that speak to the joys of the young, single male. "Too Bad" is a clever cautionary tale built around the beautiful My Conversation riddim. "Yaga Yaga", the title track, is another singer/deejay combination cut which features Terror and Gary Minott trading verses as effotlessly as the best singer/deejay combos. "Yuh Nuh Kotch" is another Pepper Seed jam extolling the virtues of the independent woman years before Beyonce and her gal pals. "If You Know You're Ready" is a catchy tune meant to reassure wifey that matey could never take her place. "Talk Bout", which sees Terror paired with Wayne Wonder, praises the girl who knows she's all that. The lush "You Must Be a Fool" reminds the listener that while Terror loves the ladies, he's still a rudeboy who is not to be taken lightly. "From Birth" finds Terror exploring his spiritual side in a fashion that makes the listener want to go into his private corner and pray for similar inspiration. These are all of the tracks I bumped back in the day on my original cassette. When said tape popped and I had to buy the cd years later, I discovered 3 wonderful bonus tracks, all of which I was familiar with from dancehall mixtapes, and all of which fit the vibe perfectly. In fact, as I type this review, it occurs to me that ever tune on this cd is pure, uncompromising dancehall. Unlike other cds from the dancehall invasion of the early 90s, this one makes absolutely no efforts to incorporate hip hop, pop, rock, or r&b in the hopes of wooing an American audience. Ironically, Terror won more foreign listeners over without compromising the purity of his craft than a host of others who tried to "go mainstream" and met with less success. Take it from a longtime listener: Terror is the truth! While it's tempting to wish he'd make a comeback, you have to respect the fact that he left the game at the peak of his powers, retiring undefeated so to speak. Big respect Terror, wherever you are! Thanks for the music and the memories.

This is some great dancehall reggae. No weak cuts and almost all are guaranteed to get you up on your feet. A very talented DJ, to say the least. Love "Broke Wine Butterfly" and "From Birth" to name a few. Heck, like I said, all the cuts are great. If you like the dancehall, this is the CD for you.

This album is definitely one of Fabulous' best. It includes a versitile mix of tunes from hardcore dancehall (Action, Number 2, You Nuh Kotch, etc) to culture vibes (From Birth, You Must Be Fool). These songs give a variety of topics that keep you listening right through. My personal favourite is the title track with Gary Minot, Yaga Yaga.

Listen- action is buju. I dont care who says what, action is buju. You can even hear Dave Kelly in the backround, just like a Buju song. It even has the riddim from love how the gal dem flex, a buju song. Buju, Nadine, Terror, and Dave Kelly could deny it if they want, but they'd be wrong. Otherwise, the cd is good.
