5.0 out of 5 stars It's on!, November 1, 2009
This review is from: The Yagyu Ninja Scrolls 2: Revenge of the Hori Clan (Paperback)
This volume is even better than the first one. While Volume 1 set up the story, now the story itself begins in earnest. The surving Hori women prepare for their first encounter with the dreaded Seven Spears, but they are clearly outmatched and will have to rely in their wits rather than strength to survive the encounter. The famous swordman Yagyu Jyubei has been asked to train them, but even he expresses doubt, convinced that all of the women will meet terrible fates at the hands of the Seven Spears.

But who knows? They might prove him wrong.

Volume 2 features a brilliant, bloody confrontation, and the very end of this volume literally sent chills down my spine--it lingers after the final page has been turned. Segawa's art seems like it was MADE for an anime or movie adaption. Many of the scenes have an almost cinematic feel to them (and even moreso in Volume 3!), and he accomplishes this to a degree that I have never seen anywhere else. I sometimes felt that I was watching a movie rather than reading manga.

Five stars? Try Ten.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Series!, July 21, 2009
This review is from: The Yagyu Ninja Scrolls 2: Revenge of the Hori Clan (Paperback)
I thought this series wasn't going to be as good as the Basilisk: Kouga Ninpouchou (Kouga Ninja Scrolls) series but I all of this series' volumes so far and I must say that it's a very awesome series and being a samurai and ninja enthusiast and study dork, I must say that Masaki Segawa hasn't let me down. This series is full of action, suspense and quite a lot of nudity. Yagyu Jubei is an awesome samurai and above-all hero of this series so if you've read Basilisk, are a Yamada Futaro fan, or just an average dork like me, buy this series. I don't think you'll be disappointed!
