Absolutely floored,
This review is from: Yahweh (Live) (Audio CD)
It takes a lot for me to write reviews. And I've absolutely despised much of what has come out of Hillsong recently (in terms of musical originality, lyrical depth, etc.). The last few albums have been huge disappointments filled with maybe three, or four solid tracks at best on each album.Still, this acoustic, organic re-imagining of some of their most recent hits is nothing short of amazing. It's especially ideal for those churches who may not have a 10-piece band and an accompanying choir for their worship times. The album is comprised of mostly their biggest and most popular tunes in the last few years from both the Hillsong Live and Hillsong United albums. What they managed to do in lowering the keys and slowing the tempo of songs such as "The Time Has Come" and "Salvation is Here" has breathed new life into songs that were already solid to begin with. Even if you are not a worship leader of a smaller church, I highly encourage you take the plunge and purchase this CD- it has been a huge blessing for my own devotional times. This is definitely one of the most pleasant surprises of 2010.

No New Songs, but Helpful to Hear Hillsong Stripped Down,
By
This review is from: Yahweh (Live) (Audio CD)
Hillsong's objective is to counterbalance their epic, arena-rock sound with something more intimate. If you're looking for new Hillsong material, you won't find it here. All their songs are repeats from previous records. However, there is one thing valuable and unique about this album for worship leaders to note. I often hear from musicians trying to incorporate and play Hillsong material in their churches that the arrangements are too dense, and the average band can't live up to the gusto of Hillsong drumming and electric guitars. There's a beauty and musicality in what Hillsong can accomplish, but I agree that commoners like us feel inadequate when trying to achieve the dynamic, intense, and ethereal prowess of the Aussies.Yahweh provides a peak into a more "realistic," average modern worship instrumental sound. The recordings sound pretty raw, which makes me think that, unlike Hillsong main, United, and Live, there isn't as much overdubbing going on after the live recording on this album. I hear rough vocal harmonies, stronger presence of acoustics in the mix, and perhaps some slight rhythmic imprecision. The fact that these are all known, previously recorded songs actually makes the aforementioned "imperfections" more remarkable. Here we have the Hillsong artists themselves showing us how their own music can be done differently. And that's valuable... Great Acoustic Renditions of their calssics praise songs,

I got this for Christmas, and am so happy my wife bought it for me. I lost Mighty to Save among all the clutter of college, and she ordered this because its included. The album is mainly live acoustic, but that's alright, it fits more for what a church might do for their praise and worship with out the full "rock Band" approach. Among the best are Hosanna, Saviour King, and The Time Has Come, as well as other favorites. This is the first of what I hope will be a new series from Hillsong, to go with their Hillsong Live, Hillsong United, and Hillsong London releases. The songs give you more of an intimate feel of the songs, without being overloaded with all of the instruments of the bands. Don't get me wrong, I love Live and United, but playing in a church worship band you rearrange songs for the service, and this album gives you another way to play these popular songs.

Ever since I bought this CD, its music and lyrics have been swirling around and around in my mind and my spirit, all day long, even when I'm not listening. It has taken me to a whole new place of worshipping God. I highly recommend this CD to anyone ready to fall on their face and soak in His goodness.

Love hearing acoustic renditions of the songs that are on other Hillsong Live and United albums. Awesome to listen to during devotional time

Great Hillsongs without all the guitar wall of sound. Especially like the cello running amok throughout some of the pieces.

This is an awesome cd of semi-acoustic recordings. It must be hard for Hillsong United to go completely acoustic...they love the electric guitar (but it is much quieter than their other cds). Nonetheless, the Spirit is in the music and it is truly worshipful.

This is a great compilation of "unplugged" versions of many popular Hillsong worship songs... My family and I listened to it while we were preparing our home for Thanksgiving dinner guests, and it really set a great tone in our hearts, helping us to stay motivated to serve others. All my kids (ages 14, 11, 9, 4 and 1) seemed to really enjoy it, and found themselves singing along. Good times.
