5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, A Place For My Paddle!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good idea...need two per paddle
Good solution for kayaks not having side mount paddle holders. I bought two holders, one of each of my kayaks, but found that I really need two per kayak.
One holder would suffice for holding a paddle out of the way while you are in it, but two are needed to hold securely while you are getting in or out of the cockpit.
I like the fact that they can be moved...

I thought the price was very reasonable considering the convenience this baby adds. It's pretty darn sturdy too, for plastic. If you kayak very much, you have to get one of these Yak Clips. They are too cool for school!

5.0 out of 5 stars Quick paddle clip for your kayak, no drilling, January 7, 2008

This Yak Clip is a handy way to instantly add a paddle holder onto any kayak...even a rental. This is very handy for kayak photography, where you need to quickly set down your paddle and pick up your camera.

Since it doesn't use rivets or glue... you can snap it on or off of a kayak instantly and carry it home in your pocket. A very cheap, simple and handy item for any kayaker.

Also, I spoke to the vendor on an issue with another product. These folks provide excellent, personal and effective customer service!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great kayak accessory!, July 14, 2008
This review is from: Yak Clip-on Paddle Clip (Misc.)
I purchased 2 of these for my kayaks. It fit better on my "Perception Avatar" than the "Perception Shadow Sealion". It would not sit upright on the "Shadow" because the rim of the cockpit was a different configuration. It faced forwards. This did not prevent it from working, but the paddle did sit forwards instead of on top.

Another thing to keep in mind is that you cannot use these clips if you use a spray skirt. You have to choose one or the other.

Having said all that, it's still a good accessory to have while kayaking. It does what it claims. Its easy to install. It only takes an instant to attach the paddle, so that both hands can be freed up to do something else.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yakkety-Yak, It's a Paddle Rack!, November 26, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Yak Clip-on Paddle Clip (Misc.)
This is an effective paddle holder for those who use sit-in kayaks. It's not only the best product for the money, but it's better than paddle ropes costing 3-4 times as much.

It's ingenious in its simplicity: Simply spread the two ends of the circular YakClip around the edge of they kayak cockpit (i.e., the oval-shaped opening in which you sit) and it forms a clamp around the cockpit lip. Once in place, you can push your paddle--without much effort--into the slightly protruding C - shaped holder. (It also has extra (smaller) clamps for things like fishing poles.)

There's enough pressure to keep the paddle in place (unless you knock it off accidentally with a direct hit from your elbow or something). For this reason, and especially because you'll hurt your arm if you brush against the product while paddling, I recommend setting the YakClip either forward or in back of where your arms move while paddling. (Unfortunately, I found out the hard way that ou don't want to scrape your arm against the top! I suppose the device could be covered in rubber or something, but that would add to the cost, and the solution is very simple.)

Other products often involve a rope tied around the paddle and then to the kayak. A common complaint is that despite the hook and loop attachment (also known as "Velcro"), the rope eventually moves and gets in the way of paddling. If you're an inventor type, you might want to find a way to attach something buoyant around your paddle.

You might need to park your paddle while pausing to snap a picture, getting water, a snack, or anything else from a dry sack or other container, when you want to just lay back and enjoy a calm lake, or--ack!--in the event you need to pump water and want to make sure your paddle is secure.

As I don't do sea-kayaking in rough water, I regretfully cannot tell you how well the YakClip holds under these conditions. (Perhaps that information is in one of the other reviews.) However, it should function well in typical lake, protected bay, estuary, slough, and other protected waterways. Delivery was relatively quick and the YakClip was well-packaged.

I like the fact that they can be moved around the lip to get it out of the way of paddling, but feel more secure if it is removed entirely.

2.0 out of 5 stars Won't Last, August 7, 2011
This review is from: Yak Clip-on Paddle Clip (Misc.)
I bought one of these and used it the first trip out. My thoughts at the time were its OK but should have spent the extra couple bucks to get a permanent mount. The paddle kept coming lose and falling out. I added a different type to my kayak and gave this one to my brother since it was his first time out on a new kayak and he didn't have anything else. It broke within two hours so this had a total of about 8 hours use before it broke. Not only that it was mediocre at best before it broke. Don't be afraid to drill holes in your kayak to put on products that are worth your time and effort. I guess if you are using someone elses kayak and/or don't want ot put a hole in your yak for the other mounts you may not have alot of choices otherwise don't waste your money.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not for fast water, July 23, 2011

The clip itself stays very secure to the kayak. But the paddle does not stay all that secure to the clip. This product is good for entering the kayak or sitting back in calm water. If there is any kind of kayak tilt at all, the paddle leans and the weight makes it come out of the clip. I found this out when exiting. A solution might be to buy 2 and secure them on the side.

2.0 out of 5 stars Clipped on Kayak fine, but doesn't hold my paddle, June 27, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Yak Clip-on Paddle Clip (Misc.)
I put this on my boat today since I was going to go out kayaking. I was all excited. Well, it doesn't fit my paddle! I have a carbon fiber paddle and the shaft is too small for the clip...so it's pretty useless for me. No use sending it back, since I'd have to pay shipping which is probably just as much as the clip. Hopefully I'll get a paddle that fits it when my husband gets a kayak.

Plain and Simple. A leash is for dogs. This is how you rest your paddle when you need or want to chill ... look at a map ... open a beverage ... etc.
