I had the Yakima fairing mounted on my roof rack for ten years, and while it eliminated wind noise over my Yakima bike rack, it has faded and is now a dull matte finish.

I decided to remove the fairing, but quickly got annoyed of wind noise over the Yakima's round roof bars above 55mph. I found the WindJammer, tried it, and it works. My wind noise is reduced (almost as much as the fairing).

Also, it seemed my round Yakima roof bars were actually too thin for the WindJammer (it clamped closed, but could spin around the bar freely). So, I added a small strip of 1/8" thick adhesive foam to the inside of the WindJammer to keep it snug.

The WindJammer is a little pricey for what it is (a piece of plastic), but in my view, it's a much better option than the fairing.

I tried this before the fairing, because it's cheaper, smaller and simpler. We had a really disturbing noise before, and the noise is practically gone with the windjammer. From others reports though, it seems like success varies from vehicle to vehicle. One concern was that it's easy to steal (ziplock style closure). I superglued mine shut, and slide it off the bar if I need to remove it (which I never do). Definitely worth a try!

When I first purchased my Yakima system, I considered getting either a faring or the WindJammer, but decided against it thinking to myself "How bad can the noise be?" Well, around 35-45 mph, the humming noise coming from the bars was very loud. (Almost as loud as a typical vacuum cleaner.) Above and below the 35-45 range, the noise wasn't as bad, but still very noticeable.

After reading other reviews, I decided to give the WindJammer a try. Honestly, the windjammer looked as unimpressive to me in person as it did in pictures online, simply a tear-drop shaped piece of plastic and I found myself skeptical that it would really work. Installation was a breeze, simply unsnap the edge of the WindJammer, slip it over the bar, and snap the end back in place.

After going out for my first drive, I was a believer in the product. I was amazed at how much of the humming noise this cut out. At high speeds (65+ mph) the wind noise becomes pretty apparent and starts to get a little bothersome, but it is better now then before the WindJammer.

Another very slight issue that I had was that when going through a car wash, the spray hit the WindJammer and spun it down, hitting the roof of my car. No damage was caused to my roof and I simply had to rotate it back into place by hand to correct the problem. Honestly, it surprised me a bit the first time I was washing my car and hit the then mysterious "thunk", but now I don't worry about it at all.

This is a great product that works well. I didn't want something as large as a faring on the front of my roof and this was a good solution to my problem.

I am a Thule guy - Yes siree - born and raised. I grew up and now cannot have a flashy fairing with all my stickers of where I have been. It was a long shot, but this fits my Thule crossbars and eliminated the howling. Its low profile is great and unnoticed. My rack is currently having an identity crisis.

Be prepared if you buy this, it's about 25cents worth of plastic. Yea maybe it works at reducing noise substancially, and it's high quality HDPE with UV protection and whatever, but I felt jipped when I got and opened the box.

And this is even after reading a review saying exactly the same thing I am now. I'm stubborn and ordered it to avoid buying a fairing.

If you use rack pads you won't be able to have both on at the same time since this takes up about 10-12" of the middle of the bar..

I've been using the Yakima Fairing for over 10 years, until it cracked recently due to the weight of the yakima storage box; i should've adjusted the angle of the fairing before putting the box on top. Since i don't keep the storage box on the rack all the time, I started looking for a replacement fairing; at first I considered going back with the standard Yak Fairing, as i liked the look, but after reading the reviews here i decided to give the WindJammer a try.

The WJ works just like my old fairing. I like it better because now i can put my storage box on top, w/o having to adjust it. Only time will tell if it will last as long; otherwise for 1/3 the price of a fairing, it works just as well...

When I received this, I thought to myself... I can't believe I bought a piece of plastic to cut down on the noise. It works! My wife even said this was great purchase.

When I received this, it was not as wide as I thought it would be. Easy to install, a snap. I have Malone bars on my Subaru and the wind noise was loud at speed faster then 40 MPH. With this attachment, the wind noise is almost eliminated.
