5.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy Hitch Mount Bike Rack at Great Amazon Price with free delivery, November 27, 2005
This review is from: Yakima 8002400 Kingpin 2 (Sports)
I bought and returned a flimsy and wobbly Bell hitch-mount rack at W*lm*rt for about ninety dollars and then researched online for better quality alternatives.

The Yakima and Thule models were so similar that I couldn't tell the difference without actually trying them on my car. There are other models of bike racks that hold bike more securely; this is the simplest entry-level model but I didn't want to spend nearly four hundred dollars for a bike rack. The rack fits into the two-inch receiver found on many pickup trucks. You must use the supplied screw-in hitch pin to secure it. I would have preferred to use the locking hitch pin that I already have for my trailer. A large wrench (7/8") is needed to do this (not included). This makes removing the rack a relatively time-consuming process.
The rack is relatively heavy (about 40 lbs)and sturdy. The bike is actually held by plastic arms that brace the bike by the frame and heavy rubber bands that secure it in place. There is an optional locking system sold separately to lock the bikes and rack to the vehicle.

I used Amazon's free shipping. The item came by UPS in just three days. The price was about fifty dollars less than I would have paid if I bought the item locally.

A great deal. Thanks Amazon

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Hitch Mount Bike Rack, May 18, 2007
I love my Yakima Bike Rack. It's absolutely the easiest to install and use. I don't have to climb up onto the roof and sprain a muscle lifting my bike. It's not flimsy like the cheap ones you could buy at the big box stores. It keeps the bike away from your vehicles paint job too. I prefer Yakima over other brands. I think Yakima has smarter designs. I've been using my bike much more often now that I have this rack. The folding set pins are so ingenious, it only takes a second to fold the top section down and when I want to open my truck bed door it's a complete breeze. The hold down straps are great. With the 2 bike mount you get a total of 6 straps. 3 straps is all it takes to hold down a bike. Very fool proof and stable fastening. My bikes a show piece when I'm driving around and it doesn't wobble. I would rate this bike rack as a best value. The quality is rock solid.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tough, November 16, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Yakima 8002400 Kingpin 2 (Sports)
A testament to the toughness of this rack: I backed into my garage door with it - there wasn't so much as a scratch anywhere on the rack. The door was a total loss.
