4.0 out of 5 stars Yakima Gunwale Brackets
Good product. Works as advertised. Easy to adjust. Easy to steal. I wish they were theftproof. This product, combined with the Yakima Bow/Stern tiedowns make for a rock steady setup that holds our 16'4" Kevlar canoe rock solid on my Explorer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Jeep Patriot fitment, May 11, 2011
This review is from: Yakima Gunwale Brackets (Misc.)
Just a heads up, these will not fit stock Jeep Partiot cross bars, wrong shape. I can not blame Amazon for this as I failed to check with the manufacture prior to purchase. The required cross bars and towers are around $175 to make them fit. No big deal, I went back to the foam blocks until something better and affordable comes along. I gave them four stars because they look like they would work just fine, just not on stock Jeep Patriot racks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, March 26, 2011

Use Yakima bars with stretch kit on a Camry. These gunwale brackets hold my canoes, both just under 16' without a problem. I drive 100+ miles a day with a canoe on top going 70-80 mph most of the way. No issues at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars better than the Thule brackets, October 31, 2010

I've owned both the Yakima and Thule racks and canoe brackets. The big advantage the Yakima version has is that the canoe easily slides into the bracket, making loading and unloading much easier, especially on a tall vehicle. The Thule bracket does not has a smooth surface, so it is much more difficult to load and unload. I had the Yakima setup on my old SUV for 15 years, never had any issues with it, no rust or corrosion.

I'm just selling my Thule rack now and replacing with a Yakima. Looking forward to having another Yakima canoe carrier!

4.0 out of 5 stars Canoe Gunwale Brackets, July 2, 2010

Bought these for hauling my new Old Town Sportster canoe (15'). Yakima rack is installed on a A.R.E shell with a 4-5 inch rise behind the cab. Be aware when buying these brackets that they may not cradle the gunwales 100%. This will be based on the width of the canoe, and curvature of the gunwales. In my case, the rear brackets support about 85% of the gunwale, and the front about 60%. This is enough to do the job, just be aware of this. I also bought the Yakima bow/rear tie down kit. Very good also, but I only had to tie down the front. I have this all installed on a 2010 Chev Silverado Ext Cab. Very solid support for the canoe, and I have no worries about it coming off. 5.0 out of 5 stars Useful for kayaks also., December 7, 2009

I use these brackets to secure my large tandem kayaks to my roof or trailer racks. The kayaks transport upside down with the gunwhales fitting perfectly on the brackets. They protect my kayaks and the crossbars as well as limit vibration. The straps are included and have a great system for padding the steel buckles. It is commpletely secure at highway speeds. Great product.

I use these on 66" cross bars along with two Viper bike racks. Works perfectly. Take them off when n ot using them so the sun doesn't destroy them. People who leave their racks on their vehicles are making a bad choice. The sun destroys everything.
