This works to lock just about anything to your car- bikes, canoe, whatever. It's lightweight, easy to use, and won't scratch your car.

The security cable does not come with lock and keys. The Yakima SKS core lock and keys have to be separately purchased.

well i purchased this item not knowing that the lock core is sold seperately.anyways you should take the core and key photo off cause your showing the cable with the lock on the item.guess gotta spend more money for the cylinder and keys.

You should remove the keys and key core from your picture. I thought that I was ordering the cable with keys and core. I am going to be out another $35 to $45 to get a key and core. Not good. I just now read a review from 2009 that said the same thing. Too bad I didn't read the review before I bought this!

Why would a locking cable come without a lock? This one does.
The lock core must be bought separately. Don't be fooled by the misleading picture.

I already have a Yakima roof rack and since I'm using SKS it's a good way to simplify the items I need to keep track of. I may get Yakima QuickBack later, and this is designed for that system, so I figured I'd kill two birds with a stone and use it as a conventional bike lock. Yes it's a little bulky for that purpose, but the less things I have to keep track of (another bike lock) the better.
If you're already using SKS, just contact Yakima and give them the number on your silver key, for another core. The new lock core was an additional ~17 including shipping. In total it's an expensive bike lock, but I plan to use it beyond that purpose. Build quality is very good, and about twice the thickness of a computer Kensington lock cable. The loop on the end, 9 ft of cord, and a moveable lock joint (the silver peice in the picture near the loop) that can run the length of the cord, allows for a lot of flexibility in securing things down. Everything is rubberized except for where the SKS core is flush, and the lock joint, so scratching metal or paint shouldn't be a major concern.

Pictures on Amazon's website clearly show the cable with a key and core in it. Fine print does state "sold separately" but I expect better out of Amazon. Amazons price was the highest of 3 websites so I assumed the artwork was correct. So much for trusting Amazon. My own fault.
