Bike fell off on first use,
By Spencer Watson (Papillion, NE) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Yakima Stick Up Bike Rack (Misc.)
I used this rack for two road bikes and have several issues:
1) The wheel trays seem too small for the road bike tires. 2) The screw-in to mount it to your receiver is not very easy to do - why didn't they make this product fit a standard hitch pin? 3) After loading $3500+ of road bikes on the rack and driving less than 2 miles, I was horrified to see one fall off the rack and get drug on the street. I think the problem came from the front wheel coming out of the front wheel tray and falling down. I would definitely NOT recommend this rack if you want to keep your road bikes secure.

Overall, the quality of materials, and design and construction of this rack are outstanding. Loading and unloading bikes from the rack is a breeze and the rack easily folds out of the way when not in use.
I have 2 complaints, however. The first is the straps that hold back tire in the wheel pocket. The straps are plastic, and have teeth on them to engage a ratcheting mechanism that you are supposed to use to tighten the strap down. The issue is that the plastic is fairly soft, and even a moderate amount of ratcheting tension will bend or shear off the plastic teeth. In fact, I finally stopped using the ratchets and simply pull the free end the the strap with my hand until tight instead. Strangely enough, even though the strap can easily be removed and replaced in seconds with no tools, Yakima does not appear to offer it as a separate part. You must buy the entire wheel pocket assembly. My other complaint is the 2 inch receiver adapter that comes with the rack. It appears to be very slightly smaller than it should be. As a result, the entire rack flops around from left to right and up and down during travel as the adapter wiggles around inside the receiver. Other than those two issues, I am satisfied with this rack.

Yakima Stickup Stands Up !,

This was everything that I thought it would be. Good sturdy construction and good parts quality. The only issue that I have found is that my wife's bike has a frame that is so low that hook that holds the frame won't go quite low enough to keep the bike from a little front to back sway. I just wrap a towel around the frame so no real problem but it wasn't quite as expected.

I've had this rack now for a few months and use it almost daily. I put my mountain bike, road bike, tri bike, or beach cruiser on it and the handles like a champ. The only single problem I had with it is when hauling a bike with large tires (mtb/beach cruiser) the wind would some times torque the tire out of the non-locked tire craddle. This would create a crazy situation in having to pull over immediately. I fixed the problem by putting a little strand of rope around the wheel and the craddle which remedied the situation. Top notch rack though!! Would recommend to anyone--

This rack is suited for light standard frame bikes at best,

I have owned this rack for 1 month now and I took it on a 3 week Mountain Bike road trip throughout the Southwest US. We have four bikes in our family ranging in frame size and frame styles. They are all mountain bikes. They are all Cross Country 25 to 30 lb. Bikes. The only bike that didn't start falling off the rack was my sons 24" tire Haro mountain bike and I tried them all to see if it would get better. The best thing that happened with this rack was it was destroyed when we were rear ended in Utah.
What I liked about the rack 1. The tie down strap for 1 tire on each bike. (It needs 2 straps per bike!) 2. The bottle opener 3. It looked sturdy when first assembled What I didn't like 1. The tire cups don't fit a standard 26" wheel. They definitely don't fit a Mt. Bike Tire 2. The rubber on the frame clamp wore away quickly scratching our frames 3. The frame clamps loosened while driving down the road 4. The flimsy 1.25" receiver with 2" adapter began to bend by the second day out. 5. The front wheel would bounce out of the cheap metal holder for the front tire (no strap) and the bike would nearly fall off the rack. The only thing that saved our bikes repeatedly was the aftermarket cable lock I used to lock the bikes to the rack 6. The plastic wheel cup tighteners would loosen themselves and the wheel cups were then free to slide. (Not good) In fairness we drove about two hours or more a day for three weeks on paved roads that were 20% of the time rough. This rack is definitely for very light duty use with lightweight road bikes and standard frame configurations. It would be best used on short 10 mile drives to your favorite very local riding spot. Not worth the money in my opinion.

The stick-up by Yakima is exactly what I was looking for in a bike rack. I am very particular with my bikes, don't like them banging around and getting scraped up. The stick-up has worked great for me. I have transported the bikes all over the east coast on vacation and they stay put. The rack fits perfectly on my GMC Envoy and is easy to take on and off. Loading the bikes are a snap. The folding capability allows access into my hatch window, if you fold it down, I can open the entire hatch. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a quality bike rack, I have had no problems with it.

Rack is Perfect for Men and Women's Hybrid Bikes,
This review is from: Yakima Stick Up Bike Rack (Sports)
I purchased the Yakima StickUp 2-Bike Hitch Mount Rack for use with my Ford Edge. Fast and easy loading and unloading of both men and women's model hybrid bikes without purchasing any additional support cross-bars or other accessories. The bikes lock down firmly in the rack with no movement or rubbing against each other. The rack assembles easily and seems to be made of high quality materials and construction. Recommend purchasing the Yakima LockUp 10 foot cable and hitch lock for security (which comes keyed alike).

This bike carrier has worked great for me. I have it on a Honda Pilot and it has been very convenient for hauling my road bike. It was very easy to assemble and to hook up to my 2 inch hitch. It feels very solid and I had confidence in hauling my bike.
