Yaktrax's are the best,

This review is from: Yaktrax Pro Traction Cleats for Snow and Ice (Apparel)
Yaktrax's are unbeatable. They give the greatest traction in all icy conditions. I run a high mountain camp and have tried many ice traction devises. In icy conditions, CAUTION, is always the most important factor, no matter what the devise. In walking indoors all devises can be hazardous, it depends on the care you use while walking. My staff and I have used Yaktrax's for years. For inside staff, regular Yaktrax's are the best. They put them on to walk from their cabin or car to the office and pop them off once inside. For my outside staff, the Yaktrax Pro's can't be beat. They are rugged and don't ware out. The strap over the front of the boot keeps them in place in most situations. When coming inside it is best and easiest to slip the boots off and to step into indoor shoes. For long Life - take a little time - when putting "Trax's" on, make sure they slip into the grooves in the soles of the boots and if the end of a spring starts to catch, use a pair of pliers to squeeze it back into place. The Yaktrax Pro's I have on now have lasted me for three years and counting.

They work fine in a mix of ice and snow/slush, but lack stability on pure ice.,

Sure Footing Once Again,
By
This review is from: Yaktrax Pro, Shoe Traction Device (Misc.)
One of my relatives got me a pair of Yaktrax Pro cleats for Christmas and I just put it aside and thought it looked strange. It snowed pretty good this week and it has been icy and I have slipped more than once going to and from my car at the office. I thought that since it was -6°F this morning, I would try them out. I was able to slip them on over my boots while in my car and then walked to the office from the parking lot and had sure footing once again. It was like I was walking on dry ground. I am going to wear them every day while there is snow and ice on the ground. I definitely recommend them.

Great product but Beware of road salt,

Got Yak Trax for dog walking in Wisconsin. Great product, but the road salt created rust and ate through the metal coils. Had to throw them away within two months.

Don't be a statistic,
By
This review is from: Yaktrax Pro, Shoe Traction Device (Misc.)
Late winter can be a treacherous time in Maine. The seasonal warmth of the sun melts snow and puddles it up in contained areas, such as driveways edged with packed snowbanks. After the night-time freeze, Zamboni-smooth sheets of ice make walking dangerous. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report that over one million Americans suffer a slip, trip, and fall injury and over 17,000 people die in the U.S. annually because of these injuries. Slip, trip and fall injuries make up 15 percent of all job related injuries. They are so common that, as you see from these statistics, they have their own named category: "slip, trip and fall injuries." Since the average direct cost for one disabling workplace injury is estimated at $34,000, with indirect costs estimated at two to five times the direct cost, no employer wants to see employees slipping, tripping and falling. To help us all get to work upright and undamaged, my employer negotiated a deal for the Yaktrax Pro, Shoe Traction Device so we could get them at a great price. They're terrific! A stretchy rubber frame to snap around the sole of your shoe, with criss-crossed wire coils that bite into slippery snow and ice for secure footing. This YakTrax Pro model comes with removable Velcro straps to secure the tops, and while I've used the straps for walking on trails, they haven't been necessary for going to work. The YakTrax website contains the following information: "With its patented SkidLock coil design, the Yaktrax Pro provides 360 degrees of traction on packed snow and ice and can be worn in temperatures as low as -41° Fahrenheit." The lowest temperature I noticed at my house this winter was -33° Fahrenheit and my YakTrax got me down the driveway and across the parking lot at work without a slip, trip or fall. This is a great product that can keep you out of the CDC statistics. Many thanks to my employer! Highly recommended. Linda Bulger, 2009 |
