5.0 out of 5 stars great instrument for the beginner and intermediate player, July 24, 2006

This review is from: Yamaha 300-Series 3-Piece C-Soprano Recorder (Dark Brown)
I have had my 300-series yamaha descant recorder for a few years. I am still very happy with it. I have even recorded with it- not to bad effect.

If you are considering taking up the recorder, but are off put by plastic instruments - don't be. The yamaha 300-series tend to be much better quality than the cheaper wooden recorders (which you will need to fork out more money for, than for the yamaha 300). I have had more than one of those lower-end wooden recorders which I've had to throw away in disgust, due to muffled tone quality, poor tuning, etc. The yamaha 300, on the other hand, is a trusty instrument, with clarity of tone.

Very highly recommended.

This review is from: Yamaha 300-Series 3-Piece C-Soprano Recorder (Dark Brown)
After reading the reviews of the various recorders out there I decided to take the plunge and buy a pair of the Yamaha 302Bs so that my daughter and I could learn to play the recorder together. The instruments arrived in simple zippered bags with a cleaning rod and a small tub of lubricant for their joints. All together a very nice set up. Putting them together is simplicity itself and this soprano version of the Yamaha 302B recorder has a nice warm tone. It doesn't sound plastic at all. The soprano is a nice size for my 10 year old but is far too big for the 5 year old. Playing it as an adult is no problem at all. If you have larger hands and would like a complimentary instrument to play alongside your child I highly recommend the tenor version of the 302B. More expensive than the soprano but the finger positions for the notes are the same (so you can still teach your child) and the two playing together produce a sound that is greater than the sum of its parts.

Have fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good value, easy to play, October 20, 2009

I've enjoyed playing this recorder--it has a good sound and even the very lowest notes are easy to play. It's much better than the comparably priced wooden recorder I had, which could barely produce the lowest notes.

This Japanese made recorder comes with a zipper case, a fingering chart, care instructions, a cleaning rod and a tin of lubricant.

This is certainly a good quality, nice-sounding and reasonably priced recorder, but if be aware of the baroque fingering system. If you are used to the German (?) system (like me) -- which I think is easier for beginners -- then this may cause some problems and confusion, at least initially.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best recorder in class!, March 14, 2010

I'm not an expert nor a musician. I just needed the recorder for my son's class. It's the best one! Comparing to the cheaper $5 Yamaha recorders. My son likes it and says it's easier to play then the other ones. So, it's worth to add few extra buks to make him a "star"...
